To preface this, I'm not at all worried, just curious after seeing so many 'writing levelling' posts on here wink
This is my DS1's first "essay", his homework was to buy something by himself, counting out the money etc, then write about his experience:

" I went to the shopping centere. I went to STARBUCkS. I Bought a juice. It cost £1.50. I had £1.40 so I asked for ten pens. My mummy gave me ten pens so I could Buy my juice. the End."

No idea about levels but 10 pens is cute! smile

I'm curious as to what you mean by 'first essay'. Spelling and punctuation is unusually competent for an early writer, as is the correct use of £ and pence.

Oh, what I meant is it's his first homework where he's written more than two sentences! They're currently learning about money at school, so I guess that's where the £ and pence come from.

Maybe a 2b but only because he used 'so' as a connective. Were the common words spelt correctly? Maybe a level 2c.

I'm going against the tide and saying 1C/B if totally independent.

GreatJoanUmber Sun 23-Mar-14 16:49:19

Yes it was all independently done. He reads a lot, which I think has led to him being very good at spelling, but he does tend to use very short and simple sentences.

GreatJoanUmber Sun 23-Mar-14 16:51:38

And he really only uses full stops (in terms of punctuation). Still, this is his first long piece of writing, so I'm very proud smile

Ok then. I conclude with 2c/1a. I teach year 2 so that makes me biased to give marks in that range. How old is he?

GreatJoanUmber Sun 23-Mar-14 18:53:48

He's 5.

mammadiggingdeep Sun 23-Mar-14 19:33:39

1a I reckon....

So cute smile

It is a level one. You have to write more for level two and better. (Amateur view). Looks like Y1 writing to me. It is level 10 in cuteness though and good Maths smile.

I would say a 1B maximum. Also it would depend on legibility of handwriting etc
