Homework doing your head in? Read wish-I'd-known tips from other parents on Mumsnet's Education pages.
DD (9) has a homework which is to write a biography of Jean Calvin in about ten bullet points using sources from the internet. How many sources would you expect a 9 year old to use?
With my 9 year old I'd suggest 3.
I wouldn't suggest any more than two (not wikipedia, on the grounds that it can be used for anything.) If she used more than a couple I'd suggest she gave a reason. (It's presumably just an exercise, not an attempt to do any real research.)
Yes, I think we are going to settle on two, neither of which are Wikipedia.
It's important she chooses the sources carefully. For that reason, I'd recommend 3 sites as then she can check the facts.I don't see why Wikipedia can't be used to check facts.
wiki cannot be used as a reliable source as anybody can edit it.it is good though for general information.
But anyone can create a webpage. It's important to teach children how to decide whether a website is trustworthy.A good source is the this site
