Brighton & Hove High School

Does anyone know much about this school? The fees look pretty good, and I the idea of an all girls school for my two daughters.

I went there (albeit 25 years ago) and enjoyed my time and got a good education. It (like all GDST schools) encouraged ambition at not too high a price (in relative terms!). I'd like my DD to attend a GDST school.

Thanks Sallingby! I went to one too, SHHS, and thought it was fantastic for women. Is the Brighton & Hove school currently good league table wise do you know? I couldn't find any info on it.

I also went to BHHS but for me it was 35 years ago since I started! I always vowed I would never send my DDs to an all girls school but guess what? Yes DD1 is now in an all girls (state) school in year 7 and DD2 will follow next year.

I met some lovely friends at BHHS but don't think I ever really fitted in. However, sure everything is very different now.

Afraid that I don't follow the performance of the school as BHHS isn't my 'local' GDST school - strange that you can't find anything on the performance - you could call the school and ask.

Sallingby school seem to have partial results on the website. To be honest the main problem is that I'm abroad on my aged mobile so research isn't that easy.

clarexbp my girls are 4 and 2. The oldest is due to start school in September, but we are possibly unexpectedly relocating to the area. How old is your daughter/s?

Hi Bluewisteria, my dd is also 4, and due to start in September :-) I've had a good look at all the pre-preps, and I like a lot of them, but I think BHHS might be the one for us....I'm just having a last dither before we slgn on the dotted line. My reading is that the senior section of BHHS is ok, but maybe nothing special, but that the junior section is rather lovely. I've been to a couple of open days, and met with the head, and it seems really nice. A calm, but busy atmosphere, the teachers, particularly the two reception teachers, seem warm and kind. The kids seem very happy and proud of their school and the academic standards are high, but not ridiculously so. I like their policies - their behaviour management is very positively focussed, and they have only a little homework (none until Y3), their wraparound care goes from 7.30 to 6.00 (I think), which is amazing, and they have holiday clubs too. LOADS of extra curricular stuff, particularly for such a small school. Seem to get kids into other local in-demand schools, as well as BHHS seniors. I am a bit unsure about the all-girls thing, but I guess you can't have everything!
