Oxfordshire prep schools: advice for a visiting academic

I shall be coming back to Oxford with my 2 boys (age 4 and 7) for a term as a visiting academic in September and am wondering what the chances are of getting them into an Oxfordshire prep school. I've read through a lot of the very helpful posts about the differences between the schools. As it's only 1 term my main concern is where might have spaces and how you can get them assessed if you're not in the country (we live in Washington DC)? We shall be staying in Boars Hill so central oxford or schools towards abingdon would work best. Any other advice greatly appreciated.
