Lily the lazy lion chatted to Chippy the cheeky cheetah. The useful united unicorns were using their horns to fight the furious foot soldiers. They wanted to pick the perfect powers of the unicorns horns to be royal rulers of the red fountain land. Chippy the cheeky cheetah and Lily the lazy lion saw that the useful, united unicorns were in trouble! So they pounded perfectly over to help and pounced onto furious foot soldiers. The unicorns gave them some powers as a gift.

Can't level it I'm afraid (not a teacher), but I wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading the passage - especially the pounding and pouncing! Lovely grin

Theconstantlygardening Tue 18-Feb-14 17:50:53

can't level anything without an age. It's all relative.

Fairenuff Tue 18-Feb-14 17:54:49

What genre is it? It does not have structure for a story. What about the spelling and punctuation, is that all the child's own?

JonSnowKnowsNothing Tue 18-Feb-14 18:00:34

That's not true, Constant.
A level three should look the same whether it's from a 7 year old or 10 year old, and so on. That's why moderation across year groups is vital.

JonSnowKnowsNothing Tue 18-Feb-14 18:01:51

Oops - meant also to say it's a lovely piece OP, but very had to level alone. Has s/he been studying alliteration recently, by any chance? grin

mrz Tue 18-Feb-14 18:25:58

I'm afraid it's the over use of illiteration that spoils it as a piece of writing IMVHO sorry OP

JonSnowKnowsNothing Tue 18-Feb-14 18:29:32

mrz I reckon it depends whether it's been written as a piece of classwork (where I'd agree with your point) or as a child just writing for pleasure and experimenting with words and sounds.

scarlettsmummy2 Tue 18-Feb-14 18:30:21

Don't know much about levels but I would guess that it is written by a bright eight year old.

Fairenuff Tue 18-Feb-14 18:33:44

The child needs to meet specific targets for it to be levelled. Otherwise, yes, it's just a bit of writing for fun but can't be levelled as they are not trying to meet any criteria.

Will have to wait for OP to come back and clarify the spelling and punctuation too.

Fairenuff Tue 18-Feb-14 18:34:48

There are no connectives, for example.

vestandknickers Tue 18-Feb-14 18:39:53

It shows the child knows how to use alliteration, but it doesn't show much else. Very sweet though.

I'm presuming an adults typed it up and corrected some spellings.

Hi, thanks for the replies. Been busy doing bedtime! Dd is just 6 and in year 1. She has been doing alliteration and wrote this story for fun. She was v happy when she finished, doesn't usually write much at home.

Summersunandflowers Tue 18-Feb-14 19:18:22

Ps no correction to spellings

mrz Tue 18-Feb-14 19:21:53

JonSnowKnowsNothing if written for pleasure levels are irrelevant and child just needs to enjoy freedom to play with words as she has done so well.

JonSnowKnowsNothing Tue 18-Feb-14 19:27:14

Exactly! Which is why I'd never try and level a piece someone put on here - I just like reading them! smile

Reevesandmortimer Tue 18-Feb-14 19:44:20

blooming brilliant! you must be really proud smile amazing spelling does she read a lot?

Summersunandflowers Tue 18-Feb-14 20:46:01

Thanks! :-) She does read a lot. Just started to write more as hasn't really been interested in doing anything at home.

IdRatherPlayHereWithAllTheMadM Tue 18-Feb-14 20:52:44

I would be astounded if my dd had written this - she is 6 also. Its a gorgeous little story, I adore reading the little passages on cute. The spellings are amazing also, our school is still on rain and pain etc.

ravenAK Tue 18-Feb-14 20:53:51

It's fab. I'd be thrilled if 6yo dd had written this!

In fact, would she mind if I pinched it to show my year 11 GCSE English class? I think they'd enjoy her alliteration & nicely chosen verbs! smile.

Summersunandflowers Tue 18-Feb-14 20:57:16

Ha ha! :-)

DreamingOfAFullNightsSleep Tue 18-Feb-14 21:02:52

Must be some bright 6 yo you have there. I'm amazed (but not a teacher though i do read a selection of paragraphs children of all ages write to see handwriting as a paeds physio- not that handwriting is my area, but close working with OT).

Theconstantlygardening Tue 18-Feb-14 21:32:30

I'm sorry OP but I can't really believe that was written by a 6 yr old. The spelling is far too complex -it just doesn't ring true for me and I'm a literacy specialist.

Summersunandflowers Tue 18-Feb-14 21:46:24

Really? She was born on 23/01/08. Didn't realise it was that good! Her teacher does say she is bright and she learnt to read at 3!

IdRatherPlayHereWithAllTheMadM Tue 18-Feb-14 21:49:22

To me its the kind of peice you would refer back to when saying:" literay talent summer junior displayed prowess at 6,look at her first peice..."
