Ime, a delay is usually bad news.

Only speaking as a parent but have been through three with dd. the one with an 8 week delay turned out to be a notice to improve. Appparantly the head had been arguing/disagreeing with various parts of the report so one reason it was so delayed.

Other two came out much quicker.....though I guess Xmas might have slowed things down and you never know if an inspector has been off sick or something before doing the report.

This happens sometimes if ofsted need to fiddle the results

Just had ds1's school's report this week from November - special measures :(

Ds2's school was inspected last week so another tense time.

we're in the same boat. Start of dec, nothing. God knows what's going on, they said 2 weeks ago it was expected 'any day' but still nothing.

I seriously wonder about ofsted, they can't even turn a bloody inspection report around in less than 2 months. Doesn't say much and surely if there are issues the sooner they start to be addressed the better Hmm Confused .

Brettgirl ofsted would have written the report quickly, the delay in publishing is normally because the school is arguing about what it says and trying to get the report altered.

I thought it had to be 15 working days... my daughters has just been "done" and Ithought we'd hear soon...

that isn't what they are saying. You have clearly more faith in ofsted than I do.

goodness that's what I thought too Grin

Our school recently had an Ofsted inspection. The Report was on the Ofsted website within 3 weeks.
I think if takes longer than that it is because school is disputing judgement as others have said.

It's not about faith in ofsted or otherwise, it's just a fact that ofsted produce a report quickly (some would say before they visit the school!) and if there is a delay in publishing it is normally because the school is fighting it. I speak from experience - our school has just gone into special measures and there was a significant delay to the report's publication as the school tried to get it overturned. The nearby outstanding school had their report published in less than 3 weeks.

There is also another reason why reports at the moment can be slow. Apparently there has been a diktat from Sir Michael Wilshaw that all reports needed to be reviewed to check that they had given appropriate weighting to gifted and talented pupils in the reports.
Obviously if you combine that with schools who do not like the outcome objecting to what is in the report then there can be considerable delays. But the bottom line seems to be if it is taking a long time expect bad news.

I am there is potentially another possible reason for the delay though I think. But it will all come out in the wash as it were.

Another long delay here that turned out to be bad news. Inspection in December, report not out until early March (Christmas holiday probably added to delay) but Head and SMT were knew on last day of inspection- Special Measures.

Currently waiting on the latest section 8 from 1st week back in January.

Some reports including those already published are being reviewed to remove judgements that don't reflect current Ofsted criteria.

Sounds bit scary mrz!

mrz · 08/02/2014 07:37

Apparently some inspectors have said things like not enough progress in the 20 mins they observed or the teacher spent too much time teaching Hmm

Would parents not be aware that the school was likely to be put into special measures? Ie would it not be obvious in the day to day contact with the school?

Report
GossamerHailfilter · 08/02/2014 07:59

Unless the parent is a trained Ofsted inspector, well versed in the things that Ofsted are judging for they may not.

Not a school but a preschool, we had ours and were rated good, we had the report back in 2 weeks but it did take about a month for it to be on the website.

Wisps there are schools which have been downgraded from outstanding to sm. The new criteria have really changed things.

Wipes you have to take into account the new criteria. A local primary here had been Outstanding for years. After latest inspection, it is now in Special Measures. Same head, parents were happy with the school- it was very popular and alwsys oversubscribed.

WipsGlitter · 08/02/2014 08:42

Thanks. It's a totally different system here (NI) and there's not that much weight attached to the reports. The PS my kids go to hasn't been inspected since 2007.

NoBloodyMore · 08/02/2014 08:55

We had ours 17th December and got the report mid Jan, got a good, the head & governors knew on the last day of the inspection so would imagine it's not good news
