Reading recovery colour/level

My oldest DC has just started reception and although she wasn't reading before starting school, seems to be progressing through different coloured reading books. She is now on reading recovery level blue - is that about average at this point?

Obviously, I realise that every child is different, so average doesn't necessarily mean anything, and it's only been a couple of weeks since she started. I'm just curious as the levels mean nothing to me!

I don't understand why they would be using reading recovery levels in reception? it should just be book bands. book band blue is level 4 which is very good but schools can use their own colours, our school uses the same colours as NC bookbands but in a different order!

what is the book, that will help work out the level?

Perhaps some schools with a high pupil population who speak other languages at home use reading recovery schemes en masse? (I don't know - just speculating).

Blue band is 4 which is excellent. Someone will be along with helpful links soon I'm sure (sorry on phone - can't link without losing window).

Sorry, ignore what I said about the reading recovery level, I think it must just be book band blue.

I think that the reference to reading recovery was included in information given to parents about the skills required for different colour bands but not actually directly relevant.

Thanks for your replies.

yes i suppose if the school use the same book stock then they can double label.

Whichever range of books it is will probably say on it somewhere (not through a sticker from the school but actually printed somewhere unless they are very old) what book band they are. Book band 4 is usually blue, ORT stage 4 is usually book band blue (not always) but their own colour is pink and as I said schools are free to use whatever colours they want to. plus some of them use more level than there are so they MAY have the first 6 book bands split into more levels as they may rank some books as easier than others even though they are the same bands.
