Oh I loved it !! but I am talking 10 ish years ago !! Is it still going?

Good way of getting to know initial letters of names when they were young ...

Unfortunately on of my ds's was the "witch" which he did not like !

Our book fell apart as it had been used/read so much !

Yes my childs school are using it for reception

I started it when dc1 was about 2ish or befofore ....I am sure letterland was on T.V ...we would get excited if it was a letter we really liked !!

I have now got nostalgic memories of cuddled on the sofa guessing the letter !1

They shifted to Jolly Phonics went dc started school but we still used Letterland at home for things .

I just asked dc 1(12) ...he can still remember it !...I have forgotten some of the names ..so am going to have to look them up now !!

Quite funny especially bizzeys posts glad to see some people love it hope my child does. Is it best to get cd and books or just books

It was in use over twenty years ago when I was first a TA. I hadn't realized it was still around! (May be "Janet and John" are still out there somewhere as well!)

As mrz succinctly puts it . . . RUBBISH!

some children love the letterland characters and stories but they aren't an effective teaching tool ...it isn't one of the government approved programmes for a reason. Plenty of good programmes available to schools with government funding to purchase or did you only want positive comments.

annie apple ...I still love you ! and the other 25 of you little lovely little rascals (admittidly I did use before Reception so do not know of it's value at that age but ...) Letterland and Over in the Meadow were the only books ds would let us read to him top set now

I taught my 3 kids phonics before school with the Letterland book and flashcard games. It has its floors but some of the pictures really do help with memory and correct orientation of letters. I think its good to use a variety of resources to keep things fun and every child 'clicks' with different methods.

My mother gave my children a few Letterland books.

They loved them, but they made me want to stick pins in my eyes.

Lots of parents swear by Reading Eggs but I would say use with a health warning ... it is American and doesn't teach phonics in the way children are taught in the UK.

Jolly Phonics is a good programme for parents to use for teaching the sounds (personally not keen on the books and don't be sucked into buying the DVD and gimmicky resources they aren't needed )

To teach using Jolly Phonics all you really need is the handbook and any good decodable reading books (might be available from your local library or try Oxfordowl and select phonics) Debbie Hepplewhite provides unit 1 of her programme free www.phonicsinternational.com/web_free_res_sign.html
