Hi. We are considering of moving to Greenwich, & one of the main reason is the school. Any views about Brooklands Primary School or Halstow Primary School?

Thanks for your help

Have visited Halstow and was very impressed, though I understand it is difficult to get a place there. A couple of years ago Brooklands had some problems and Halstow was working with Brooklands to help improve the school. No idea what the situation is now but you really need to visit both schools and get your own feel for the schools.

My nephew is at Halstow. Out of 60 kids in reception, I'm told only 3 got in on distance - rest mainly siblings.
SIL liked Millennium too.

seriously! 3 places out of 60 given on distance?

I checked the Greenwich council website, the distance from school is 100-200m. Is there a tool to measure the distance from the school gate? I cant find any tool on the council website.or everyone goes with Google maps?

About 140m, and yes, Google Maps will do. Look at how many houses are in that area (half of the circle with that radius is the school...) and there can't be more than 100. I doubt the south side of the main road is close enough.

We lived in Greenwich until a few years ago so things may have changed. Brooklands and Halstow almost impossible to get into. Sherington not much easier. We liked Millennium but you would need to live quite close. I suspect others in the area may have improved too now though

From where? I would say its one of the main reasons not to move to Greenwich. I don't know anything about Brooklands but you need to live on the doorstep of Halstow to get a place. The rental market around the school is absurd with families moving on as soon as their oldest gets a place and siblings are then eligible.Hmm

Are there 2 entrances to Halstow? one of Halstow street and the other on Kemsing Rd (the gate is bigger) this side? Council website says distance from main gate... so wondering which side are they referring to?

thanks

Halstow is indeed fab but as everyone's said, incredibly difficult to get into and if you don't you're a bit stuck for a second choice. Brooklands is outstanding, an absolutely brilliant school and is now in federation with Millennium so I'd expect that to start improving at a rapid rate as well.

I would be very reluctant to move to Greenwich (though to be honest much of London is similar) for the simple reason that you have to live on the doorstep of most schools to get in, so you have no back up. If you are close enough for a chance at Halstwow/Millenium/Brooklands, you are miles too far away from any of the others to stand a chance.

I certainly wouldn't move there for the school unless you can guarantee living literally 20m from the main gate.

brooklands catchment area is much bigger than halstow and the school is on the up again - everyone I know loves it.

John Ball (in Blackheath village) also very good - bigger than brooklands but in lewisham rather than greenwich.
