Junior Schools near Ashford, Kent

Hello!

We are hoping to return to the UK this year and are looking for places to live not too far from Ashford as we will need easy access to the Eurostar.

We have thought about Canterbury and Tunbridge Wells for schools. Can anyone recommend any schools where languages are high on the agenda, if such a thing exists? Our daughter will be going into year 3. Alternatively, a market town type of place but with good road links would also be viable.

DH will be working 3 days a week in Paris and 2 days a week at home. Also, I work in higher education. Is the Uni of Kent really the only option in this part of the UK? I can't bear the thought of commuting into London every day, been there, seen that and don't want to do it again!

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks.

state or private ? You are unlikely to get any more than very basic language in later primary in state.

Either, not fussy for Junior school, but realise we'd need a strong academic school for senior.

thanks.

Kent has a state grammar school system for secondary, with competitive entry the year before admission (aka 11+). tbh you may struggle to get a place at such short notice at a school of choice. There are several HE institutions around the area, what do you teach/do ?

i have really good things about the kings school if you wanted to private - good for everything main school is 13+ but has a linked prep !

Uni of Kent is the only pre 1992 place in Kent but it is actually quite a good place to work- what do you do?

Hello
Thanks for the initial info.
I am head of languages department in a business school in Paris and I teach English as a foreign language as part of my job. I have a very good deal here, so hope I can find something similar in the UK. I will miss all those holidays though, the French are spoilt rotten!

It's years since I lived in the UK, so need to review the education system, I know nothing of the 11+.

I had a quick squidge on the King's site, it does look lovely and I see it's very close to the uni, but GAWD the prices are hefty, but I guess I'd have to get used to that.

Also look at Further Education colleges. EFL and ESOL are increasingly in demand in the community too.
