Please could someone tell me when parents are told the school at which their dc has been allocated a Reception place for September?

April 17th I believe.

It depends where you live.
Our area has already been told.

I'm in Surrey. I am not great at waiting, don't understand why it takes so long!

There is a National Offer Day (March 1st) for English secondary schools. They must all make offers on the same day and there's no regional variation.

Most primary schools announce their results in the week beginning 15th April but officially there isn't a set date. As of 2014, a fixed date will be set and it will be April 16th for everybody.

Kt8791 - it is much faster for primary than secondary!
Primary application deadline is January for an April result
Secondary application deadline is October for a March result!

Thanks - no need to worry yet then. The school dgs1 goes to is out of catchment. No problems in previous years-it is a very rural community with several very good schools. However there is a bit of a waiting list now following an 'excellent' ofsted.Dd lives in town and passes the school on her way to work and her cm lives in walking distance.Dgs2 is currently in the nursery class and dd hopes he will be ok as he has a sibling who will be in yr2 next year.
She just realised she hadn't heard anything so I said I would ask on here.

Being at the nursery already or having a cm nearby won't help in terms of getting a place but having a sibling who is about to go into Year 2 probably will. Usually having a sibling at the school will mean your dgs is further up the criteria than many other children so has a better chance of getting in.

It depends what order the admissions criteria are (does catchment count for more than siblings?) and how many children decide to apply to the school this year.

Thanks Tiggy that's what I thought and is why dd isn't taking anything for granted.

15 April for me. Am very nervous as first choice is over subscribed and could go either way as just within the furthest distance allocated the past few years. One week to go and I've got a cold sore stressing about it.
