Every night and every morning he tells me he hates school and gets so worked up when its literacy, writing etc...

He just hates writing, the teacher/school is also abit of a stickler for neat writing, must be joined up, must be written with "their" school pen.

His writing is well abit untidy but hes a boy for gods sake! Yesterday they were writing a poem they had planned out and it you didnt do it ALL joined up you had to start it all again.

They do seem to do a huge amount of writing...they plan something out, then write it out in full, then write it out again in their bestest writing

He does try hard at home Ive noticed he does get distracted but then I think its boredom of not wanting to write

Doesnt help he is on a table with boys who enjoy writing, girls who love it!

Can you help him to make his writing neater?

I have one of these year 3 boys too, he doesn't hate school but hates literacy and the constant planning and re-writing. He doesn't hate school at all but I fear this will happen eventually.

I have no advice I'm afraid because I am just as stumped but my technique has been to tell him he has to get on with it and practice a lot. I've just discovered our school has some advice for parents on encouraging skills in literacy such as choosing a noun then doing a mind-map of lots of synonyms (house, mansion, shack etc.) structuring and organising the text (which is what my DS struggles with) so looking at bullet points, mind-maps, subheadings and stuff.

Perhaps your school has similar?

Oops sorry for the double "not hating school" blush

Some children hate art, some PE , some maths and some writing and as jalapeno says children just have to get on with it. From your post it sounds as if he is taught to do the type of things jalapeno mentions during lessons. Personally I think if a child does it in their best handwriting first time then they won't have to re write it later ...which is pointless work.

since when has 'being a boy' mean that he can't write neatly

It doesn't

My son hates school because he has no friends. I'd rather have your problem.
