Hi

I'm thinking of sending my 2 children to Crosfields School in Reading but can't find ANY information about their academic performance online and have emailed the Headmaster's PA who's avoided my emails! Please can anyone who sends their children there or who knows how they perform in their results - KS2 level and 11+, please let me know? Is the teaching any good? Many thanks in advance. I just want to know if its worth sending them there...

I have experience of Crosfields from a few years ago. I don't think they do SATS (most independent schools don't, as you probably know). They did pretty well at 11+ - with a fair few getting into Reading Blue Coats and Reading School every year (my DS left before girls had got as far as year 6). However, they like to hold onto their pupils through year 7 and 8, so they tend not to make a massive thing of 11+ results.

I think that it is a good school - DS1 was only in the nursery class though. It is very very big (although class sizes are fairly small ~20). There is a nice atmosphere amongst the parents. Sport is good. If you have girls, you might also want to look at the Abbey, which is probably more academic, or at least more 'formal' in the early years (if that is what you are after).

OK - that's good to know - many thanks. I've got 2 boys so as long as the results and teaching are good and the sport is varied and i know they have great facilities, then it should be a good choice...just wish it was cheaper tho! :-)

I would be a little concerned that your emails appear to be being ignored? What if your children started at this school and you had a problem - would you communication be ignored then?

Sorry OP, I'm playing Devil's advocate for you!
