Not keen on Carol Vorderman but blimey that Maths Factor Summer School is good for kids with low mathematical confidence.

Just thought I'd share as I've seen several threads with low confidence dd's in maths,my dd being one of them.

Anyway I bit the bullet and signed her up for said summer camp last night and she's been on it over an hour today and has learnt masses already.First computer maths thing we've tried and I was a bit sceptical tbh.

There is a camp to consolidate each year group just passed,with teaching thumbnails(Carol Vorderman v good at teaching surprisingly),they then have games they can play and then a skills section where they collect stars towards badges.All really well done and as an ex teacher myself largely so far as I'd put it across. Admittedly we've only been on it today but she's romping through which is amazing.

She's fired up and walking round with a very big head which is lovely to see(first time ever).

Only thing is her brothers want to join,they don't really need to and at £15 it would be too pricey to pay for all.

never heard of the camp.

my dd struggles with maths and 15quid sounds ok is that weekly or monthly fee?

Thats for the whole thing.It only runs until 30th Sep.It's a one off fee and is online.I dithered,wish I'd done it before as it could keep us going for ages.All the details are on the Maths Factor website.

camp conjured up idea of staying. yes looked it up and thinking that price worth a try as least 4weeks until she back in schools and can maybe condense what shes missed.

I have to say I've been pleased with the summer school - DD is very keen to do it, its providing practice on what she has learned this last year and her confidence has improved.

Summer club & winter club well worth the money. They each last for 3 months which is great value. The yearly arithmetic package is £15 a month (£130 a year!) & did not find it as good as you can't move to required section as and when you need and according to what is being studied at school. I am now using colourful workbooks and signing up for their winter & summer clubs.

interestingly some of the DK Carol Vorderman work books you can buy weren't written by her - says in the small print inside.

Sorry to ask a probably really obvious question, but where can I find the summer school? I've googled it and it comes up with the maths factor website which shows lots of the different schools ie algebra school etc but no mention of a specific summer one? Am i being stupid?!

You can just do the normal arithmetic school which is a DD payment monthly I believe you an stop at any time. We've been using it since Sept and in one term my Y2 DD went up 4 sublevels in Maths ( she was behind before ).

That's really good to know Taffeta and something I'm considering for my ds. How often and for how long would you say she uses it? I have two ds would I have to pay separately for each?

I think you probably would need separate accounts for them, as the thing that's good about it is it assesses each homework they do and then based on how they do adjusts the following ones accordingly, iykwim. So unless they are at exactly the same level....may be worth contacting them see if they will do a deal for 2?

They recommend 5 x home works per week. With lessons, the whole thing takes about 10-15 mins a time. For the first 6 months we stuck to 5 x pw, but have let it slip a bit recently.

DD has nearly completed Carol Vord's times table school on Maths Factor. It's so good, really connects with how DD learns.
DS uses Conquer Maths, which is excellent. It is linked to the national curriculum by school years; really good short lessons (he likes it that you can pause and rewind them!).
Khan Academy is really good too.....and free :)
