When's your Y6's bedtime?

Assuming they've been awake since 6.45-7am, school's 8.30 to 3 and the evening may or may not have had an activity (Cubs or one night a week's tutoring).

Note I'm talking about 'normal range' DCs here, so this scenario:
"Up at 5.15, muck out the horses, ride til 7, half hour flute practice, school at 8.15, sport from 4-6.30, homework 7.15 til 9.30, relaxation/family time, then bed at 9.45pm..." ain't us! So it's not a competition!

FWIW, DS2 (10.5) gets into bed at 8.30pm and reads til 8.45-50pm, then lights out.

Just curious about yours!

10 yr old Yr 5.

Aim to be in bed by 8pm, lights out 8.30pm. Often drifts, but he needs his sleep. I wake him at 7am.

DD Yr 2 can keep going waaay longer. I reckon by Yr 6 she'll be up till at least 9.30pm. Reeaaally looking forward to that!

9 year old dd (yr 4) bed at 9pm reads til 9.30pm up at 7.30am. At weekends she stays up late and gets up late. She does go to bed later than her peers though and from memory her sister went to bed at 9pm in yr6.

Frankly, when she gets home!

Yr 6 pupil is DD, a very busy bee. She is in Guides (finishes 9pm), Scouts (finishes 9.30pm), and a play for which she gets home from rehearsals 9pm.

Other nights any activities finish earlier, but we often have dinner later then so she is still up 8.30pm.

She doesn't need as much sleep as her brothers I have decided; she is always first up (well, after me) at about 6.45-7am, and never seems tired.

Mine are both up at 6.15 am - we both work and use a before and after school club. They get picked up from there after school for about 16.20, bit of TV/trampoline time until 17.00, then shower/dinner/bit of homework and music practice. Upstairs at 7.30 pm, brush teeth, then I read to them until 8-ish. After that they get 15 minutes reading time on their own and lights out by 8.20-ish.

DD1 is in Yr6, DD2 is in Yr4 - they seem to need similar amounts of sleep so we are not differentiating bedtimes at the moment though this may be subject to modification depending on how things change Smile

Thanks everyone. I have been thinking about making DS2's bedtime 'officially' 9pm as that's where it's heading! He's a very good sleeper, out like a light and wakes himself.

DS1 (12), otoh, has 'lights out' at 9.30pm but frequently does a 'stage cough' from his room at 10.45pm as I go up to let me know he's still awake. He's a rubbish sleeper, like me.

DS(11)Y6 is upstaris reading about 8pm, lights out 8.30/9pm on a school night. He sleeps well and I have to shout at to him to get up at 7.30. Don't know how he'll cope next year when he has to be out of the house at 7.30!

DD1 (Y6 - nearly 11) goes at 9pm, or soon after. But she gets straight into bed, lights off, asleep in seconds.

DD2 just11

Up about 6.50am (her choice) she could get up at 8 and still be onetime for school.

Bed 9.30 to 10.30pm (has two nights when she doesn't get in till after 9).

Gets tired and grumpy only if she is silly and reads past 11.30.

Has 14 yo sister who goes to bed or at least to sleep (she often reads, listermusic or does HW in her bunk) any time from 9.30-12.30.

Nearly 12 yo Y7 DS was going up at 9, lights out 9.30 last year. Now its more like upstairs at 9.30, lights out by 10. If there's something suitable on TV that he likes or he's so quiet that I forget he's sitting next to me he stays downstairs til 10 and goes straight to sleep when he goes up.

He used to moan that it was way too early and that all his friends stay up much later, but since starting secondary school he is more tired and goes up without moaning most nights.

9 for lights out at 9.30pm would be perfect.

However, as DCs get older I've found clubs get later than you'd like. Simply because Rainbows, Beavers, brownies, begins tap, younger swimmers etc use the same facilities earlier in the evening.
Would be lovely to be home by 8.30pm, but it doesn't work.

Wonderful to read this thread as my DS (11) insists that all his friends get to stay up till 10 on a school night!

Yes, DS2 starts Scouts tonight which means he'll be home at 9.35-40; he's 10 so thank the lord it's a Friday!

My y6 gets up about 8, goes to bed around 9pm, generally reads til 10 (I sometimes push for earlier but she doesn't seem tired and she gets stressed about not being able to sleep). So, a bit later than most but she doesn't have an early start.

my yr6 gets up at 7.30 after 10 min of preadolescent groaning but a bowl of cereal perks him up beautifully!

Bed about 8.45 and light out officially at 9pm but tend to drift toward 9.15 in practice.

I'd like it to be 15-30min earlier but DCs are stacking up for bed like planes over Heathrow from 7.30, so it's the only way to get a bit on 1:1 with him before bed.

DS2 (10.5, Y6) - theoretically in bed at 8.30, reads until 9, lights out at 9. In practice, it's still usually 9.15 before he's said all his goodnights. He gets very tired though and really struggles on Fridays as he has to be out of the house at 7.45 for a before-school club and on Thursdays after Scouts he's not in bed till gone 9.30.

DS1 is 13 and is often still awake when I go to bed at 11.30/midnight, though he has a schoolnight rule of bedroom from 10, lights out at 10.30 (and his laptop switches off at 10).

My Y6 DS does fine on a regular bedtime of 10.30pm. (Goes straight off to sleep when he gets to bed.) He doesn't have to get up until 7.45am, which is obviously a lot later than some.

7:30-8pm is bedtime and he can read till 8:30 but not if he is knackered, then its straight to sleep. up by 7am to be out of the house by 8:10am.
