Does anyone know what the RIDDOR H&S reporting proceedures are for infant schools?

Please excuse my lack of technical knowledge here......

Ds has an accident at school recently after which I was called to collect him. After I collected him I took him to hospital and he was admitted.

Does anyone know what paperwork if any the school should have completed and / or filed regarding this?

What were the injuries? What was the accident? Did he go to hospital straight from school?

Sorry to hear this :( Schools are subject to exactly the same RIDDOR requirements as everyone else. But not every accident/incident is 'riddorable'. But even if it doesn't come under RIDDOR it should still go in an accident book.

it was a head injury. The school called me to collect him and once in my care I took him to hospital.

Ok, are you able to say how the accident happened?

it was a playground accident. I don't mean to be elusive but I know the school use mn and i don't want this to spiral out of hand.

Ok, then it's likely to only be reportable if the accident occurred because of poor organisation/supervision arrangements, the condition of equipment or the condition of the premises, e.g. a potholed tarmac surface. (taken directly from my link above).

The school must report it (if applicable), not you. Is there any reason why you think they won't?

I think they wouldn't because there was virtually no information on the day or since about how he did it. The accident book just said he bumped his head and having spoken to both his teacher and the head neither of them seem fussed about getting to the bottom of it or addressing the concerns we have about how the accident was handled.

luckily ds is fine but we are feeling very brused off.

if it was "just" a playground accident & there were no issues re supervision (ie they had the required number of adults on duty to supervise) and there were no issues with the condition of the playground that could cause your DS to trip etc then it would not be reportable under RIDDOR.

What are your concerns about how the accident happened and how it was handled?

Most bumps are recorded in the accident book as such usually recorded by the person who dealt with it.
