DS 5, is an Angel in his first school nativity - no angst or rant though. Mary and Joseph have loads of lines. I just have to make sure he wears white undies under his white trousers. Grin . I cannot wait.

Ds is "Jack" in Jack and the Beanstalk....of course he had his heart set on being a "Magic Bean". He is the oldest in the class, I think that's why he got the part, the teacher is hopeful that this might mean he might behave more maturely...we shall see....

I'd just like to know what part ds has. It's in 2 weeks and we are supposed to be making a costume. Confused

Dear child (on the autistic spectrum), the words are 'It was a bumpy road, it was a bumpy road, it was a bumpy, bumpy road...' and not 'It was a fucking road, it was a fucking road, it was a fucking, fucking road...'

No angst here; we own an angel costume and DD is ... an angel. Grin Bad luck on her friend, who owns a sheep costume and is to be ... an angel.

well it was very obvious why certain kids got certain parts but i think that is always par for the course

my angst is this

I bought DS' outfit last year in a well known supermarket chain. and it looks reasonably cheap. But he is happy with it and I think he looks cute

The other children seem to have their outfits from harrods (ok slight exaggeration).

Should I fold and get DS a fancy outfit?

DS2 brought home someone elses costume letter, So I don't know what he is supposed to wear.

However he is a member of the paparazzi. so I'm thinking this will be an easy costume, shirt, jeans and a camera! Grin

Last nativity play for us, DS2 is the youngest and goes to Upper School next year.

I am a teacher and am really looking forward to ours. It's all going to go horribly wrong, isn't it? :o

EverybodysScaryEyed Let him wear what he's got if your both happy with it.

thepuddingchef Dress her in brown? Has school said if they've made the head dresses for the animal parts?

DD is an angle and singing a solo. You wouldn't believe how fecking ecstatic I was when I found out. Now I am groaning, as she um, is well.....terrible. We are putting in at least an hours work a night, and haven't' mastered the last two lines yet. I presume she was given the part due to her confidence. Hmm

I'm fed up with DD playing/singing the same bloody song over and over again!
The one the Teacher gave them to learn off by heart.Angry
If i hear it again today, i think i will scream. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. It's a type of torture.

DD is a cow in her nativity.

I was delighted! My son has the only acting part chosen out of 60 children! I was so proud...until I learnt why... He has the lead because of his facial expressions! I have a feeling of impending doom Blush

What do narrators normally wear?

And also how many lines do your kids have to learn as mine seems to have an inordinate amount and I'm quite worried he won't manage it.

Report
HumphreyCobbler · 30/11/2011 20:55

narrators can often read their words, are you sure he has to know them off by heart?

Don't shepherds wear dressing gowns and tea towels anymore?!

DD1 is a star in the preschool play. The "bigger" girls are ALL angels. She feels left out. Can't say i blame her - she's 3 in Feb, they are 3 in Dec and Jan. Hardly makes them bigger. Anyway, she's been more or less pacified with the fact the star is the most important as it goes on first. A black t shirt with a bit of glitter is going to look drab next to the pretty angel costumes would though. Oh well, the staff can have the strop...

Skibum, you can get star costumes at the supermarket if that helps. V shiny they are too.

another teacher here!
the angel keeps lifting her dress above her head, Mary is so quiet, Joseph keeps whispering "I can't hear you" in a very loud whisper, the donkey refuses to sit still and wanders around the stage tripping Mary up, the King spends most of his time trying to unwrap the gold parcel and the sheep need a sheep dog to keep them under control! The bossy little girl in Year 3 ( I think every school has to have one!) keeps hissing loudly at everyone else to do as they are told and the Reception teacher is on the verge of a nervous breakdown! As the year 5/6 teacher whose sole responsibility in the proceedings is to make sure the KS2 children can sing the carols ( they can!) I remember my time in Reception with horror!

I'm joining the rant - My son came home with a note from school announcing his part in the play, he is to be 'stuffing' yes you heard that right!
The lovely note states that the costume should be a box of stuffing.
You can't buy that outfit from bloody supermarkets.

I have just spent over an hour covering a large cardboard box in blue paper... only 2 weeks ago I had to make a carnival float.
I hate making things, I'm rubbish at it and i do it grudgingly. Why can't they make them at school.

DD was supposed to be a camel but didn't want any lines so is a camel keeper instead. I had a flicker of Sad (v keen on drama) but actually v. relieved as she's managed 1 day at school in the last 8, and I don't have to worry about it.

Have to provide dark trousers tho', at v. little notice and with a sick child I can't take shopping! The best I can do is a sort of mid-blue denimy jegging thing. Or her dark grey school trousers, but seems a bit sad to wear uniform as part of your costume.

When I say angle, I mean angle. The sound of an angle grinder comes to mind when she is singing, though.

Humphrey - I'd better check. He has about 10 sentences at least split into five different places and I think it's a lot to learn. All the narrators have a lot more than the others to say, so maybe you're right.

MuddlingMackem · 30/11/2011 21:26

DD is one of the kings, and actually has a speaking part. I was miffed, she's only in reception and for the last two years the reception class have merely been set dressing. The speaking parts then were only given to year 1 and 2 children. Bah!

However, at least it's only one line, she seems to know it, and I think she knows her cue. Could be worse, feeling sorry for the mother of her fellow reception friends who are Mary and Joseph and have quite a few lines. This is the first nativity we've seen where Mary and Joseph actually speak.

Oh, and if our school's nativity last year is any guide, the narrator (our ds!) got to read off the sheet - probably because holding the sheets kept his hands occupied Grin - and he just wore black school trousers, a plain shirt and a bow tie.
