levels/ targets year 1 & 2?

Hi there, just a quick question - I have been reading other threads about progress made, levels and targets and just wondered if my dc is where he should be and what he would be aiming for at the end of year 2?

He got a 1A for writing, and 2C's for maths and reading at the end of year one - is that about right and what would his targets be for end of year 2, so I know what to be expecting. It is great to get all the grades, but also doesn't mean much without knowing what is expected iyswim. He seems to be managing the extra work levels this year and is very happy at school, his teacher seems great, so I am not worrying too much, but would be nice to know he is where he should be. I hadn't thought about it much, because he got nice comments and an A for effort, so that was enough to keep me happy :), but now I am wondering.

Thanks guys!

He's doing very well. Slightly above where he should be.

By the end of Y2 you will be hoping for 2s or 3s.

By about Jan school should be able to tell you his target for end of year.

In theory he should be aiming to make a level progress in Y2 so 2A writing and 3C maths and reading (many schools won't award a level 3 unless it is a secure 3B) but in any case he is slightly above expected levels.

That's great - thank you! Nice to know he is doing ok.

I was a little concerned because we had an NQT in foundation and year one and whilst they were both fantastic, his year one teacher did say he wasn't the most confident and she had to work harder with him to find out what he was capable of and also that he is very hard on himself. She said when he shows her a lovely piece of work and she gives him his next target his face drops as if he thinks his work isn't good enough. So I've made sure I give him the message that as long as he does his best it is good enough and that the teachers are just trying to help him make his work even better.

There were also a couple of mums who were told at the end of the year that their children were behind/struggling which they were not aware of previously- the general feedback from both teachers at parents evenings seemed to be positive and telling us all they were 'about where they should be'. So it did leave me wondering a bit if perhaps they had tried to stay too positive and not to bring up any issues. This year his teacher is a lot more confident and I know I'll be getting an honest, but still hopefully positive parents evening ;)

His year 2 teacher said she was expecting a timid, perhaps even slightly withdrawn child at first, but that he is confident and putting his hand up etc and happy to show what he can do. Although he does always have one eye on her to make sure he hears any instructions and is behaving appropriately at all times :)

I guess as long as he continues to make progress this year and enjoy school I shouldn't worry.

Sorry for the waffle! I really appreciate your feedback - thank you!
