If you find that your favoured school is oversubscribed, look at the surrounding schools. If they have spaces available and are actually undersubscribed, it's most likely because the ultra-popular schools has drawn children away, and not a statement about their own quality.
So the "second-best" school in a popular area is often available, surprisingly!
