Advice re Yr2

Just looking for some advice/ideas. I have just had parents evening and I explained to the teacher that my daughter has complained of being bored on quite a lot of occasions this term. She finds the work too "easy" (her words). The teacher said she would see what she could do - but she also said that 'her hands were tied' as once they reached a certain level (I think it was 3c?) as an infant school they were discouraged from children obtaining higher level. I asked if basically this was a wasted year for her, and she couldn't give me an adequate answer. What happens in other schools. Just don't want daughter bored for the rest of the year, or put off school because she is bored. I am also annoyed because in yr R and yr1 she took part in extra maths and reading and now it feels like she is being left. Any info on how I can help her or anything the school should be doing. There is nothing to stop the teacher "teaching" your daughter to PhD level if that were appropriate to your child's ability

If a teacher said that to me I would be straight into the head to request clarification and then suggest that something needs to be done.

There is NOTHING that should stop a teacher from teaching EVERY child in their class so as to enable them ALL to make progresss .. so whether your daughter is 'reported' as being a 3c or whatever, and whether there is political pressure not to 'report' he as higher than that she SHOULD be receiving teaching which continues to move her on at the same rate.

DS has arrived in Year 6 with 5bs, which is well above where he should be at the end of the year. His teacher's response? 'Fantastic! We're working towards level 6 and getting the new papers in for maths, of course, but also getting in a maths teacher from the secondary school to do extension work with our most able children and....blah blah'.

Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish response. I'd be seriously cross.
