Apply in Croydon. If the move goes tits up you will at least be in the Croydon system. Nothing you can do about applying to Leeds till you have an address. Bar maybe looking at schools to pick your target housing area.

Yes, apply in Croydon.

Is there any chance you can move to Leeds before the 15 Jan deadline? Because otherwise you will be disadvantaged in getting into a good school.

Ring the education authority in Leeds and ask what the procedure is. Probably won't be able to do anything until you have an address though.

If you can move before 15th January you should do so. If not you will have to apply in Croydon which will give you a reasonable chance of getting into a good school where you currently live. Unfortunately by the time you move to Leeds it is likely that the better schools will already be full so your son will end up in an unpopular school. However, if you move close to a good school he will be near the front of the waiting list so you may get a place that way.

You can't apply to Leeds until you have an address in their area with either a signed tenancy agreement or a letter from your solicitor confirming completion of the purchase.

"Close to a good school" could mean literally opposite the school gates if the school is very popular.
