What time does your child go to sleep on a school night?

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 13/09/2011 21:30

My son is 9 and apparently the only one in his class who goes to sleep before 10pm on a school night. On weekends 'everybody else' stays up until midnight. Hmm

In an ideal world I would like to see him in bed by 8pm on a school night. He takes ages to drop off to sleep (I mean when you tell him he can read for half an hour in bed and forget to go up to turn off his light he's still reading when you go upstairs to go to the loo at 10pm Blush.)Most nights its usually lights off by 8.30pm.

My 6 year old is in bed by 8pm on a good night. Quite often it's 8.15-8.30 as I find it hard juggling the two bed times and he keeps getting out of bed and I basically need to get more organised. Ideally I would like to see him in bed by 7.30.

Could we have a school night bedtime roll call?

Just put your child's age and bedtime.

I want to show my 9 year old this thread so he can believe me that the ones who say they go to bed at 10pm are probably not telling the truth........

DD is very nearly 6 and starts going to bed about 7:30pm I read to her and she is generally asleep by about 8:30

DS is 7 and starts going to bed about 8pm. I read to him and then he goes to sleep. Not sure exactly when but pretty sure he is asleep now.

I am really interested in this post as recently friends have shown surpise as to how early we put DS to bed, he really seems to need his sleep but wonder if letting him to read in bed later would be OK.

DS is 8 and goes to bed at 7.30
DT's are 4 and in bed at 7.

DS 9 - it's nine o'clock by the time he's come home, done homework and music and eaten, so he's normally asleep by around 10 (though sometimes later). But he never seems tired. He gets up at 6.20 for school.

DD 7 - lights out at around 7.45, but I can hear her chattering to her toys until more like 9. So long as she stays put and keeps her light out, I don't interfere.

DCs are 5.5 and 7 this week, and they are in bed by 8. DS then usually drops off quickly, DD reads for 30 mins or so. They are both then awake around 7.30. I don't mind an hour or so later at weekend, but any later and they are dropping!

DC 4, in bed 6.30...asleep in minutes!
DC 6, bed around 7, varies how long it may take to go to sleep but not usually after 8.
DC 8, bed approx 8 and reads for approx half an hour. He stays up a bit at weekends because he sleeps in whereas the other are generally up at 6 regardless so their bedtimes remain the same!

DS is nearly 7 and goes to bed at 8.30. He finds it hard to get to sleep and eventually goes off about 9.15 if I'm lucky. He does sleep until about 8 in the morning though. No different at weekends unless there is a special reason.

Bedtime and sleeptime aren't usually the same. Mostly down to the smaller DCs who are in nursery and reception and both have an hour's nap 4-5pm (or else they are completely hysterical all afternoon and evening), then go to bed around 8.30. They are still awake now, which is unusual.

DC1 is nearly 10 and he goes to BED at 8.30 (unless he's had karate in which case it's 9), and usually gets to sleep quickly unless he's sharing a room with one of the younger DCs.

They seem to wake up around 7.30am, DC3 (who stays awake the longer), often later.

DD2 (7, primary 4 = y3) Bed 8.00, lights out 8.30

Older 2 are "old" for their age in school, youngest is "young".

I'm horribly strict but glad every morning at 7.30!!

I can still hear ds1 (6) and ds2 (3) talking now Sad - 10pm
They have been in their pjs from about 7.30, maybe 8pm. they have been quite good at staying in their room tonight but some nights they will be up and down like yo-yos - and they still manage to wake up when they are supposed to at 7.30am if not earlier.

DS2 is the worst - ds1 will usually peg out first and ds2 will carry on being awake for another hour or so, sometimes still carrying on playing the game they were playing on his big brother's bed, using his brother as an extra mountain to drive the cars over or as a book rest to look at books Grin - luckily ds1 sleeps through this!

Would love them to fall asleep earlier. my mum is forever suggesting different tactics and saying about how my sis gets all her 3 dds to bed by 7pm - maybe 7.30 for the eldest (8). She just doesn't believe I've tried everything but if the boys aren't tired then they aren't tired.

So far ds2 has fallen asleep early (pre 8pm) on about 5 occasions in the last couple of years - so you can imagine I treasure those evenings quite highly. Couldn't believe that one of them was one of the few times that my mum was babysitting for us so she didn't have to go through the experience of them being so awake for hours [grrrrr]

so if you do find a reliable way of making them go to sleep early I'd love to know! Most of their friends (according to their mums) do fall asleep between 7 and 8, only one other was regularly asleep at about 9-10... thinking the mums might be a more reliable source of info about actual class bedtimes!!
