What time does your child go to sleep on a school night?

My son is 9 and apparently the only one in his class who goes to sleep before 10pm on a school night. On weekends 'everybody else' stays up until midnight. hmm

In an ideal world I would like to see him in bed by 8pm on a school night. He takes ages to drop off to sleep (I mean when you tell him he can read for half an hour in bed and forget to go up to turn off his light he's still reading when you go upstairs to go to the loo at 10pm blush.)Most nights its usually lights off by 8.30pm.

My 6 year old is in bed by 8pm on a good night. Quite often it's 8.15-8.30 as I find it hard juggling the two bed times and he keeps getting out of bed and I basically need to get more organised. Ideally I would like to see him in bed by 7.30.

Could we have a school night bedtime roll call?

Just put your child's age and bedtime.

I want to show my 9 year old this thread so he can believe me that the ones who say they go to bed at 10pm are probably not telling the truth........<gulp!>

dd is 8 and has lights out at 7.45 (but she has to be up by 7 am)

LawrieMarlow Tue 13-Sep-11 21:34:26

DD is very nearly 6 and starts going to bed about 7:30pm I read to her and she is generally asleep by about 8:30

DS is 7 and starts going to bed about 8pm. I read to him and then he goes to sleep. Not sure exactly when but pretty sure he is asleep now.

I am really interested in this post as recently friends have shown surpise as to how early we put DS to bed, he really seems to need his sleep but wonder if letting him to read in bed later would be OK.

DS is 8 and goes to bed at 7.30
DT's are 4 and in bed at 7.

DS 9 - it's nine o'clock by the time he's come home, done homework and music and eaten, so he's normally asleep by around 10 (though sometimes later). But he never seems tired. He gets up at 6.20 for school.

DD 7 - lights out at around 7.45, but I can hear her chattering to her toys until more like 9. So long as she stays put and keeps her light out, I don't interfere.

DD 9 in bed for 8.30 but frequently found reading till far too late.

DS 7 in bed for 8 latest and asleep soon after

DCs are 5.5 and 7 this week, and they are in bed by 8. DS then usually drops off quickly, DD reads for 30 mins or so. They are both then awake around 7.30. I don't mind an hour or so later at weekend, but any later and they are dropping!

EyeoftheStorm Tue 13-Sep-11 21:42:10

2 - 7pm - thumb in, bit of music, asleep.
5 - 7.15pm - asleep when head hits pillow.
7 - 8pm - does a weird game with his fingers and asleep (most nights).

About half an hour later on weekends.

DS almost 5. In bed 6.30-7.00 and asleep within minutes.

livinonaprayer Tue 13-Sep-11 21:55:47

DC 4, in bed 6.30...asleep in minutes!
DC 6, bed around 7, varies how long it may take to go to sleep but not usually after 8.
DC 8, bed approx 8 and reads for approx half an hour. He stays up a bit at weekends because he sleeps in whereas the other are generally up at 6 regardless so their bedtimes remain the same!

DS1 is 5 - he's in bed by 7pm

DS2 is 3 and just started half days at school. He's asleep by 6.15 atm!

yellowkiwi Tue 13-Sep-11 22:02:36

DS is nearly 7 and goes to bed at 8.30. He finds it hard to get to sleep and eventually goes off about 9.15 if I'm lucky. He does sleep until about 8 in the morning though. No different at weekends unless there is a special reason.

irrationalfury Tue 13-Sep-11 22:03:45

Bedtime and sleeptime aren't usually the same. Mostly down to the smaller DCs who are in nursery and reception and both have an hour's nap 4-5pm (or else they are completely hysterical all afternoon and evening), then go to bed around 8.30. They are still awake now, which is unusual.

DC1 is nearly 10 and he goes to BED at 8.30 (unless he's had karate in which case it's 9), and usually gets to sleep quickly unless he's sharing a room with one of the younger DCs.

They seem to wake up around 7.30am, DC3 (who stays awake the longer), often later.

verybusyspider Tue 13-Sep-11 22:05:07

ds 5 - 7pm if he makes it but any time from 6.30pm
ds 3 - 7pm
ds 2 - 7pm

When I was little we were all in bed at same time, the older we were the longer we got to read for

pchick Tue 13-Sep-11 22:07:57

Ds 2 is often awake after ds 1 as needs less sleep. Ds 2 usually is asleep by 9 pm, although is in bed a lot earlier 8pm). Ds2. Is 9.

Marne Tue 13-Sep-11 22:08:41

Both of mine go to bed at 7pm, but dd1 (7) is starting to say her friends stay up until 10pm shock, tonight she went to bed at 8pm as she had brownies and was still arguing that it was too early.

tortoisefairy Tue 13-Sep-11 22:09:04

DS1 is 5, asleep by 7.30
DS2 is 3, asleep by 7

weegiemum Tue 13-Sep-11 22:09:39

DD1 (11, primary 7 = y6) Bed 9, lights out 9.30

Ds (9, primary 5 = y4) Bed 8.30, lights out 9.00

DD2 (7, primary 4 = y3) Bed 8.00, lights out 8.30

Older 2 are "old" for their age in school, youngest is "young".

I'm horribly strict but glad every morning at 7.30!!
