Moving to Bounds Green, clueless about DS starting school!

So, DS is only 6 months old, but we're moving to a new area where we'll stay for a few years so figure I need to think about this now. How does going to school work? (told you I was clueless). I think Bowes primary looks good and new house is about 0.4 miles away so can I be sure DS will get in? I don't like the look of Bounds Green infants, which is closer, although willing to be proven wrong. Help!

The year before your DC turns 5, you will need to apply for primary (e.g if they turn 5 between 1 September 2015 and 31 Aug 2016, you apply sometime around Dec 2014-March 2015, timings vary). They would then start school for the academic year starting Sept 2015. Generally you can apply for between 3-6 schools depending where you live, and admittance is according to the entry criteria priority, which for Bowes is; children in care; medical needs for this specific school; siblings; then by distance as the crow flies.

According to the primary admissions booklet from Enfield here -
www.enfield.gov.uk/downloads/file/3049/enfield_primary_admissions_book_2011

in the last couple of years the furthest distance an applicant has been successful for admittance for the school is 0.499/0.479 miles. So I would measure the distance carefully as you could be right on the edge. One good source for this is
www.freemaptools.com/distance-between-uk-postcodes.htm

Be advised though, this works to the centre of postcodes whereas the council's system will work to your actual property and the school gate, so adjust for this.
