trying to encourage nextdoor 12 year old girl to read SOMETHING over the summer. her reading ability is pretty average so something quite easy to read and fun. she's into tv, movies, music , JLS.. please help !

She's the right age for the older Jacqueline Wilson books.
Girls In Love (etc.)
Kiss
Little Darlings
etc.
Some of them are on video, and very funny too (try Utube), so she could watch the videos & then want to read the book.

She's not too old for Artemis Fowl or Harry Potter.

I am also thinking Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, Judy Blume, Paul Zindel (My Darling My Hamburger, etc.), though whether they read as dated now, I'm not sure. Louis Sachar stuff (eg., Holes & sequel), is a bit... er, mature! But some of it is hilarious. DC have just devoured one of Sachar's "Sideways" series books.
