a book of abridged Shakespeare plays and also a book of abridged Dickens stories. Ds age 9 has asked me for them and I don't know where to start looking. All suggestions gratefully received.

Orchard classics do a 16 book set of abridged Shakespeare stories. There are comic strip versions of classics by Marcia Williams which are worth a look at too.

I think there are some Treetops Classics which include Dickens & Shakespeare.

DD has had a bunch of the Usborne ones and then my mum bought her the box of Orchard ones for her birthday. She's nearly 8 but a good reader.

I think the Usborne ones are easier / more accessible than the Orchard ones. If you've got a very competent 9 y.o reader then that shouldn't be a problem, but I think there is definitely a difference in reading level between them.
