What book band level is the ORT 'The Magic Key'?

We have an old copy, with an orange back that says it is level 5, but i think this was before the colours changed.

What book band level would it be now?

And a series are this still recommended for early readers? DD adored it but i dont want to let her pick loads from the library then find she struggles as they are 'sight words' based whereas she has been taught to use phonics at school

The ones we have are level 5 still, some seem older then others but the first one is level 5 as it follows on from the level 4 books that go through the new house, moving (where they find the dolls house), the play and finally the storm where the tree falls on the roof and they find the box with the magic key in. The level 4 ones I have are quite resent so I am sure it is still level 5.

sorry, missed the last bit, they are quite eay up to magic key and they get longer and more complicated with every book. They are quite simple though but for an early read I would star with level 4 so you get the story behind where the key comes from

Ah, ok.
I did wonder where the key appeared from, as it is in a box next to Chips bed and I am sure that there was a whole story behind it mentioned on here.

But tbh your explanantion has made my brain glaze over......I may steer her towards choosing 'Dr Seuss' books for her library summer holiday challenge, far more my cup of tea!

I doubt my explanation is very good or very clear to be honest lol!

At our school the first Magic Key book was blue band but the others in the series were green band, it caused a bit of hassle as DS absolutely loved it and was eager to read the others but was not 'allowed' to as they were the next band up even though they followed on directly.

Blue band.

I have a number of ORT books in my book boxes which the children like, but there are plenty of others that are more simple for early readers as they are more phonic-based.

We received this for my daughter aged 4.10 this week for the second time. What a great imaginative book. My husband does most of the school book reading so I didn't realise that there had been a build up to the magic key.
