looking after the welfare of the child rather than just their academic side....

So noticing if their behaviour changes, they're unhappy, something's wrong at home, dealing with bullying.........

It means normal level looking after your kids like you and any other parent would expect. They just dress it up with a fancy name to make it sound like they are doing something special.

When talking about a school it means things like, do they notice a pupil who is unhappy and would they know what to do about it, do they clamp down on bullying and help pupils to resolve their differences, do they have procedures in place to support a pupil who is struggling due to problems at home/illness/bereavement/etc

if it is good it can be far more than just everyday basic care: dd's school, for instance, has a counsellor who is specially trained in bereavement counselling

It's not that rude! It just means French Kiss, right? Blush

Thank you for info. I don't know why I thought Pastoral meant something religious. Thanks!

pastoral care is key - it means the school is looking after your children if they get bullied. Most people focus on academic results - always ask re pastoral care
