We recently went to Dunstable for the day and really loved the initial impression of the area especially when we passed Dunstable downs (the view was breathtaking!). Just wanted some information from maybe people who live or had lived there what the area is like, what the local primary/secondary schools are like, the local community etc. I am CHinese while my partner is English, would we feel welcomed? Would also like to hear from people who live in areas surrounding Dunstable, possibly a little closer to London. Many thanks.

Dunstable town centre has been dying for some time now - real shame as it used to be a good market town.

I live in Leighton Buzzard which still manages to have a relatively thriving town centre and also rail link to London. 5 miles from Dunstable. Lots of very nice villages in general area as well.

Hi. Dunstable and rest of Central Beds still have 3 tier system. Lower schol goes up to end of year 4, middle to end of year 8, then it's upper for GCSEs. Council voted to change to standard primary and secondary a couple of years ago, but I don't know if they are still pursuing this - gone quiet. Think schools in the town vary a lot. Our neighbouring village shoud feed into Dunstable schools, but most people opt to send DCs toLeighton Buzzard instead, or into Bucks if they think they might pass 11+. dunstable has no train station, but LBuzzard does, also Tring or Luton/Leagrave.
