Question about reading for a 9 year old

My son just turned 9.
As we are moving back to the UK this year, I am concerned about how his education here and there will compare and what level he is at.

In Norwegian, he reads 115 words per minute. His English reading speed has not been tested. But he read Roald Dahl Georges something medicine yesterday. It took him nearly two hours, he was chuckling his way through it.
What stage would he be at? What would a uk educated child read at this age?

Sounds spot-on for year 4 to me.

So 9 is year 4 in the uk ? It would seem he is where he should be. I need to keep encouraging him to read English, and ASK if there are any words he doesnt understand.

My dd1 is 8 and in year 3. At this stage many of her peers are not what you would term 'free readers' I wouldn't worry about his speed of reading as comprehension is more important. As he is bilingual he will have many advantages over his peers and I'm sure if he is a bit behind the curve he will soon catch up when English is all around him.

It would be a suitable book for a good reader of his age in UK too. Sounds like he will be fine!
