We're hoping to move to East-Grinstead soon (got a new job nearby), and would really like to hear some opinions on the state primary schools, in particular Baldwins Hill and Halsford Park.

Info on nurseries also very much appreciated!

I love East Grinstead. My children go to Estcots (I'd recommend this one, but it's the other side of town!). I also have friends with children at Halsford Park and all seem very happy with that school, too - comments in particular on good pastoral care. Baldwins Hill used to have a dire reputation, but now that it's a sister school to Halsford Park, I think it's considered quite good - not that I know anyone with children who go there. There isn't really a bad primary school in East Grinstead (I know people with children at St Mary's, Blackwell, The Meads, Estcots, Halsford Park, Felbridge, St Peter's and Crawley Down), so no school would be a disaster for your children.

As for nurseries, I'm afraid my kids just went to a local pre-school, only open 9am-12/1pm, so I never paid much attention to friends' comments on their children's nurseries.

Thanks very much - great info!

Anyone with personal experience w.r.t. Baldwins Hill?

No knowledge of Baldwins Hill but I do know that the school in Febridge is supposed to be excellent. Indeed I know of some parents who moved into catchment area and took their children out of a local Prep school to put them in Felbridge.

Thanks mumoverseas, we will have a look if there are some nice houses in Felbridge on rightmove...

All: Baldwins Hill info still very much appreciated...

Bear in mind Felbridge is in Surrey, so different application forms to different education authority required - other East Grinstead schools are West Sussex.

Why the obsession with Baldwins Hill? Have you already seen a house you like?

Whereabouts is your place of work? Gatwick way??? Lingfield? Have you considered the other side of East Grinstead (towards Ashurst Wood)?

Yes, there are some nice houses near Baldwins Hill, and they seem a bit better value than the houses in the Halsford Park area and Felbridge. Work is indeed to the west, so Felbridge would be a bit better...
