Does your school use SparkleBox?

Mine does. Do not the schools receive information regarding which websites not to use?

We were advised by our County not to use it a year or two back (even at home, bringing in resources to use). In fact the site was "access denied" on school servers. All their resources have Sparklebox printed on them that are virtually impossible to disguise.
However, recently, the ban has been lifted and KS2 materials are now accessible. Not sure of the reasoning behind this.

Nobody uses it here anymore, but there are some old resources still kicking around. I don't use any of them.

I would not use it even if it had the best teaching resources. If the ban has been lifted out that is very sad. A paedophile is always going to be a paedophile. Apparently, months ago I have seen another website with a similar sparking name and look. I guess there could be a number of such websites.

I'm sure I read somewhere that it was continuing under new management, as the original guy was in prison??? In which case, it might be worth them changing their name, I would have thought.

New management is a family member who is mamanging it while he is away. It's still making money for him and it'll be there for him when he comes out.
Not sure whether he will be allowed to return to it on release. Hope not Angry He shouldn't allowed to do anything child connected EVER again.

It's access denied actually at school. We are allowed to save resources on USB and bring them into to school to print. There are also old resources already in school still being used.

Have seen it in the past. Not recently.

I am susprised the website has not been completely shut. WHy to keep it run? This person should not even be alowed to check his emails. Paedophiles are not humans so no human rights for them.

Ah, her, Twinkl www.twinkl.co.uk/
Is this not the same as Sparkle? You can also share the pics. Or is it just a coincidence. Although the creator's name is different, you can call yourself whatever you like.

I don't see the point of making it access denied at school but allowing teachers to download resources at home to take in. If it's an objection on moral grounds, then that should apply across the board.

I work in Education and our county actually recommends Sparklebox Shock When I raised the matter with the trainer on a training day she completely rubbished the idea that there was anything wrong with it.

I don't use it myself.

When you use SparkleBox it means you are supporting his actions. Think about little kids and their parents.

I believe it was blocked at school because there was a forum on the site, where teachers could upload photos of their displays and stuff. The uploading of photos was seen a potential child protection issue. I don't think it was supposed to be a 'moral objection'.

Blocked by our LEA on the school network but some of our teachers bring stuff from home to use.
I have been asked on occasion to block out the sparklebox logo before photocopying or laminating. Do see the reasoning behind not using any resources from this site - hiding the logo only means it's not being advertised Hmm

Hello all - just a quick one from twinklHQ to clarify that there is absolutely no link whatsoever between twinkl and sparklebox. We do allow classroom display sharing, but like other sites, this is under very strict rules.

Pop over to www.twinkl.co.uk/page/meet-the-team (or our Facebook page) to find out a little more about us and hope to see you soon :)

Why call yourself a similar name? I would immediately think you were the same people and avoid accordingly.

Report
Octavia09 · 15/03/2011 17:20

hocuspontas, I am thinking exactly the same.
And why would you need a photo sharing anyway?

As for the people saying it is ok to use their recourses printing them at home or removing the logo then I cannot agree with it. It is just immoral to go to that website and use the resources to teach your kids. You also have no respect to the parents who lost their kids because of paedophiles; no respect to the little ones.

It's hard to remove the logo because it's invariably integral to the image, in colour, so Tippex is ineffective.

Report
mrz · 15/03/2011 18:56

I think people who say they print them off at home and remove the logo are missing the point. Every time you visit the site you are generating income for Samuel (Daniel) Kinge to fund his life style. So in fact you are financially supporting a twice convicted paedophile so he can continue his hobby!

The site is banned by our LEA servers.

Some of out teachers still use the site via home computers. I assume they know why it is banned but chose to use it. Many don't remove the logo ot website either. It would appear that although ou LEA bars the website there is no ban on using the resources themselves.

I persoannly do not use the website or the resources from there given a choice. However, if my class teacher gives me resources to use with groups of children I have to do so. I have told her I prefer not to though, and why.

We still have some old stuff kicking around but nothing has been taken from there since the he was convicted nor will.

the probem with sparklebox was that the peadophile was using the forum to access info and photos etc.....the site itself was not set up by the peadophile. our LEA advised to not use the forum but sparklebox is a valuable resource for schools and childcare settings.
