Does anyone know how many sub bands are in Red Band?
DS is in reception and on level 2. He has had to read all the level 1 ones before he moved to stage 2 so I am concerned it could be a long process.

There are sub-bands at my Dcs school, dolphin, that's why it takes so long to finish the freakin' reading scheme!

Yes I am trying to make sure ds doesn't get in same position as dd. She ended reception on red. In year 1 she was only assessed termly. So now is only on orange in year 2. I know this is average and I am not really stressed about her. However, ds is bright and I think he will get bored easily. It doesn't help when twice in the last month he has been given the same book twice. when I told teacher he was finding red 1 easily I was told he had nearly finished them. So if he has to read every single book on each level he will still be on red at the end of the year.

Never ceases to amaze me, reading on MN, how many schools insist on reading every book at every level - kids learn in fits and starts, if your child suddenly has a "Eureka" moment with reading they should be catered for accordingly. Thankfully, although my DC's school do have loads of bands and sub-bands, the teachers that I have encountered so far have been flexible enough to SOMETIMES allow a jump of a level or two.
