How many kids per class, how many classes per year?

I'm curious as to how many children there are in your child's class, and how many classes there are per year. I went to a primary school that had 3 classes per year, with approx 22 kids per class but my niece's school has 1 class per year with 30 kids in it.

30 kids per year is the limit (and norm) for state infant classes.

Last year there was 1 Reception class of 26 and 1 R/Y1 class about the same size.

This year there are 3 mixed Y1/Y2 classes. Ds's class is 26 again. Don't know why they decided to divide it up like this.

30 is pretty standard for infant classes as class sizes are capped at 30 for infants.

DD's (rural) school have 15 per year and 1 class covering every 2 years until Y6.

DC's infants school has 2 classes per year with up to 30 children in each.

The feeder junior school has either 3 classes per year with up to 33 children in, or 4 classes per year with up to 30 children in (depending on yearly numbers)

DD's class currently has 11 but will have more after Christmas (about 28 I think?). She's in reception.

DS has 17 in his - in year 2. There were 32 last year when we moved here. School had already decided to split the classes and so he was allowed to start.

Year 1 about 30.

There are three year 3/4 classes which have fewer than 30 in. Next year if they did that there would be about 22 per class.

Not sure about year 5 but year 6 has about 40 I think, although often split for teaching.

31 children per class, two classes (2 got in on appeal). They share space and kind of operate as a single enormous group for a lot of things.

I was so shocked I seriously considered going private for a while. 62 reception children in one (big) space - imagine the noise... (DS starts in January).

Ds1's reception class currently has 19 in it, but this will increase to 25 after Christmas.

The school will then have 3x reception classes with 25/26 pupils each.

Numbers in the juniors are slightly higher - 29/30 per class

15 children altogether in a combined r/1/2 class, 17 children 3/4, 17 y5/6 class.

At my dds school classes vary in size according to year group but this is because birth rate and demand for school places in the area has gone up over the past few years.
So reception and Y1 3 classes of 30 children
Y2 & 3 3 classes of 27 to 28 children
Y4 is only 2 classes of 27 children
Y5 3 classes of 24 children
Y6 3 classes of 23-25 children
My dd is in Y6 but when she started in reception there were 28 children in each class. Classes for KS2 tend to be lower as many parents move out of the city into more rural areas to get into "better" secondary schools.

Years vary in size, two years per class (small school) - nursery/reception, yr 1/2, yr 3/4 and yr 5/6 so class sizes vary.

DD's year is a big one, around 15, but the year below is only 8, so currently 23 total in the class.

The year above is bigger, so next year when she's in the yr 5/6 class it will be more like 29 or 30 total.

Dd's school has 2 classes per year at ks1 with 25 (max) per class.
At ks2 there are three y3/4 classes and 3 y5/6 classes with 30 children.

Ours is a small village school that has a one form entry but only 6 class rooms. it is straight forward until you get to year 4 when it gets more complex. Year 5 children are split between the Y4 class and the Y6 class. The pan for the school is currently 20 although when the current Y5 children started the PAN was 16 so Class 4 and 5 (Y4 and Y6 class) each have 24 children. They do some complex juggling so that in the AM all the Y5 children come together into one class with one of our 'extra' part time teacher using the ICT room.
Last year a new reception class was built which meant that these complex teaching arrangements only had to be for what I talked about above rather then the whole school it also meant that for the first time is was possible to breach PAN without breaching ICS regs, this was the year my dd started and was also a high birth rate year, the school took 6 over PAN by way of uncontested appeal leading to a class size of 26, now she is in Y1 that has gone down to 23, the reception intake this year went the same way and also has 23. There is planning permission in place to build one more class room to put an end to the current issues however still need to get the money and no grants for a few years due to the new reception class room, hopefully it will be in place by the time the current Y2 class reach Y5 as they are currently the biggest class in the school at 25, mixed classes will now be possible any more although who knows, as the PAN is still low they do not need to replace any leavers.
Sorry, whittering on a bit there! I really love the smaller class sizes at our school, it is great for dd who has some mild SEN due to speech problems, everybody knows everybody else, all the teachers know all the children, I don't know how they manage it but they have really good staff ratios and amazing staff retention (retirement seems the only way people go!).
I can't quite imagine my children being at a larger school, 30 children in a class seems massive to me and with more then one class a year I can't imagine how the children and the staff would all get to know each other properly, our headteacher not only knows all the children at her school well but also the names of all the parents and younger siblings. It maybe that I have become a bit of a school size snob due to the fact I went to a tiny school, 16 in my class, one class a year, my primary school had a very similar feel to it even though apart from the size they are so very very different on paper, I went to an inner-city, very deprived area catholic school where as our now is a very small village, wealthy area, CofE school however the caring community ethos was/is in both schools.

DD is in Reception, there are 16 children in her class.

DS1 is in Year 2, there are 23 children in his mixed Yr1/2 class.

DS2 is in Year 3, there are 24 children in his mixed Yr3/4 class.

There are 4 classes in the school: Reception, Yr1/2, Yr 3/4, Yr 5/6. The maximum number of children in a class is 30, but it rarely gets that high.

This may seem small, but I went to a primary school with only 24 children split between 2 classes so to me it seems enormous!
