doesn't exist

kids work in ability groups and movement is fluid

what's the point in streaming a young child they develop at different rates

DS's school has just streamed for maths in Y2 - effectively there are three streams: the higher, the lower and those who need "extra" help. It's enabled the school to focus more on "extension" work for the more able children. However DS is at the lower end of the higher stream and feels very demoralised because he is somewhat struggling with the "harder" work and faster pace.

Other stuff is in fluid ability groups as per PP.

Think they are a good idea as long as children can move about freely (and are put in the right group).

I don't think anyone does full-scale streaming at that age. They are likely to be grouped according to their current level of achievement in things like reading, spelling and maths, to allow them to go at different speeds and then those who have gone faster can do other work, practice different aspect etc. Some children may be in "higher" groups for all those things, some just for one or other.

So long as the groups are fluid and allow for children to move easily between them, I don't see any problem with it.

streaming helps the children be taught at their own pace. Children move between groups when appropiate.
