Thanks

Two of my children went there - there were some real positives; my children loved their time there and were very happy - and negatives, mainly to do with the standard of education which made it unviable long term. I don't really want to out myself here but am happy to share more if you want to PM me.

When I was a remedial reading tutor, I had a couple of delightful children from Lewes New School. This was six years ago, so things could have changed.
The school, at that time, didn't seem to have a clue how to teach struggling children to read - it was very much 'children will learn in their own time'. The problem with this is that children who struggle to learn to read really do need very specific Code based teaching and are left floundering - especially when they reach secondary level.
These children, by the way, had very supportive parents who read to them all the time.

One of my daughters left LNS a couple of years ago - she has since gone on to secondary school and is in most of the top sets and still a keen and motivated learner. I put most of this down to her time at LNS which she loved. The standard of education has got much more rigorous there in the last few years, with an ambitious new head teacher. It approaches learning in a different way to the mainstream schools - subjects are interwoven together in big projects, and there is an emphasis on collaborative learning. I just wish there was a secondary school like it!
