Going to a primary school open day tomorrow for dd1. Any tips on what to look for/ask?

I asked about class sizes, sporting activities, lunches/snack policy, bus routes, settling in periods in Reception.

Chances are you'll get shown around by someone who will tell you all these things without being asked.

I found that the most telling thing was the manner of the children in the school - some schools have children who rush past you in the corridors and don't hold doors open, other schools have the opposite. I know which school I'd like DD to go to!

Reading- when do they start teaching, what methods do they use, do they stick to one reading scheme or use a combination of several

Bullying/friendships- what proactive techniques do they have (buddy benches/friendship trees/happy sad clouds)

Yikes! Bumper, thanks for this. Am also viewing a primary school tomorrow and am shamefully unprepared.

Thanks for the tips. I guess i'll also find out what hideousness they do for settling in, just as i am going back to work after maternity leave.
