Diet app for 11.5 yr old?(7 Posts)
Please, please, please do not do this. You would be setting your child up for a lifetime of food issues and body negativity, something it sounds like you know all about yourself. Like someone else said, less junk and prioritise activity. Don’t make a massive deal out of it, and remind her that bodies come in all different shapes and sizes and there’s nothing inherently ‘better’ about one type of body. Hopefully she can see the value in herself as a person that is separate to how she looks. Good luck.
I agree with everyone else, an app wouldn't be helpful. Reduce portion sizes, up fruit and veg, cut most the unhealthy snacks (no sweet food between meals as bad for teeth, the exception is fruit). Avoid slimming world. Ask for a school nurse referral if you're struggling.
Thanks for your replies. The last thing I'd want is for her to get an eating disorder. I've been on and off slimming World myself butter just can't afford to go these days.
I really think it would be unhealthy for her to have a calorie counting app or weight tracking app at her age. A lot of women spend their whole lives dieting best not to install that in a child, and it could also encourage an eating disorder.
I suggest cutting out the crap and you will see a massive difference 😁 maybe look at portion control? If you can’t change what her dad does maybe just change what you do and she can just have treats from her dad?
Tbh same here. She can join slimming world free if you join xx
Hi Op, I wonder whether an app would make her hyper aware of everything she eats? I have a 10yr old DD and would be concerned it would make her overly aware, but your DD may be different
If she eats a mainly healthy vegetarian diet and all that exercise then she should see a change by just reducing the bad stuff. You need her father on board to stop buying all the crap (do you think he would be ok?) clear it all out of the cupboards so it’s not an option and things should settle naturally?
My daughter is overweight - 95th percentile and whilst I think she looks fine she's told me she wants to lose weight as she doesn't want to get bullied at secondary school when she starts in September. Are there any apps we can download aimed at kids/teens? She's very active - cycles to school and back every days, does 5 hours of dance a week plus an hour of an after school sports club. She loves her grub though and has a sweet tooth (her father buys tonnes of crap) but she does eat a healthy vegetarian diet mainly. I know I just need to cut down on the after dinner ice creams but I think it would help her to track her progress. Thanks!
