Goose bumps are a good series. My son is reading the revenge of the lawn gnomes at the mo and read, Stay out of the basement and the night of the living dummy.

Does sher like detective stories? How about the Robin Stevens books? (I think that's the writer!) My DD loved them although now also enjoys way more scary stuff! There's also The Diamond of Drury Lane and some others in that series?

Try the Fizzlebert Stump series, the Stinkbomb and ketchupface series, and the Compton Valance series. All very funny and enjoyed by my kids.

The trials of Morrigan Crow books are brilliant. I read them to my first daughter aged 10 and now my second as she is 9 and I love them! Great strong girl central character. They have more than a whiff Harry Potter about them but are special in their own way. Dd1 is reading the 3rd book now and I can't wait for her to finish soni can read it to DD2!

DD is 8 but a very avid reader. She's recently enjoyed:
The Power of Poppy Pendle series
Castle Hangnail
Friday Barnes series (these are great, a bit Nancy Drew-esque but more modern)
The two books in the Starfell series by Dominique Valente.

The Chalet School book by Elinor N Brent Dyer are really good 😊!

Another vote for Morrigan Crow books!

Anthony Horrowitz has written some funny stories eg Granny, or the Diamond Brothers books.

Wed Wabbit by Lisa Evans is fun, although might be a shade too easy for your DD now.

Along the lines of wimpy kid I think my kids read "big Nate" - there are hundreds of them and they look awful but they like them!
My kids are 10 and 11 and do not have sophisticated reading tastes! They also really still like the Beano and the phoenix magazine.
