I have a DD who will be 13 this year and has asked for a birthday party ie in a hall with do or similar. The only issue is I'm pregnant and due within days of her birthday.
I want to arrange this for her as she hasn't had a party for a few years (2years ago she had 3 friends over for a sleepover). I want to mark her birthday, however my DH thinks I'm mad and has vetoed it. He has a point:
I could have s tiny baby/be in labour / or just grumpy ! He also doesn't think it is important money spend especially with mat leave on the horizon (I get a good package but still not full pay).
Even though all of the above are very sound reasons not to have one, my opinion is that it is affordable but if we don't have one this year and she asks next year at the end of mat leave it will not be. DH argument is so what he only every had an 18th thrown by his parents (he never once had a children's party grown up).
In terms of me being in labour or having a tiny newborn, my plan would be to have DDs grandparents and her father (We separated when she was a baby and I met DH a few years later) on standby to be chaperones to ensure kids get picked up by parents etc (they would be at the party anyway). I've spoken to the grandparents who are fine with potential arrangements so far and I I'll speak to DDs father next time I see him.
Am I mad trying to achieve this? What would you do? AIBU?
TIA
