Bikini hair removal method suitable for 12 year old?

Hi, my DD is almost 12, is physically quite mature for her age. She's beautiful (no, really!), but she's got quite a bit of body hair. When she asked for it I showed her how to shave, and she does her legs and underarms. I did try those waxing strips on her legs, which I use on my fairly sparse blond hairs, but she found them too painful (also, I hated doing it.)

Now with summer on the way, and she loves swimming, she's wanting to do a bit of crop management "down there". What to use? Forget about waxing - too much pain involved. You can't really shave the bikini line, can you - doesn't it itch like crazy if you do that? Can you use those chemical methods on a bikini line? What about those Lumea things? Do they work?

Any advice gratefully received!

You can shave, I've never had issues with it itching. Or you can get sensitive skin hair removal creams.

If she is self conscious about it of course you should help her, Nair bikini hair remover is fab.
Trim apply and leave for 6 mins then wash off with warm water

I'd like to be able to wear 'normal' styles of swimming costumes and not have my pubes on display. Why shouldn't she have this option, just because she's young?

OP I'd go with hair removal cream. Yes she is a child but why does that mean she should be dismissed and forced into swim shorts when she's clearly asking for support?

Clearly some PP have issues with the idea of children growing up!

My Mum didn't let me do hair removal at that age. It was incredibly embarrassing! I did it myself (slightly dodgy results!).

I'd go with hair removal cream. I agree with Cameron, the Nair bikini stuff is great.

I use Veet for holidays, so only a couple of times a year, and it doesn't irritate my skin.

But in the UK I wear a boy legged swimsuit so I can swim more spontaneously.

DD has shaved her bikini line and legs since she turned 11. I don't mind, it's her body and I want her to be happy in it.

Epilators are great for legs and underarms but no way could I do my bikini line with one.

Shaving may or may not be a good idea, it's not great for me personally, unless I want to end up in Sporner's Corner. I'd be more including to use a cream - but better still, see if you can get her some funky swim or board shorts - I think they look loads more stylish that bikini bottoms myself!

Do you have a beauty therapist?

Someone who does your your legs or eye brows or whatever. Maybe ask them ?

Does she have sensitive skin, OP? If not, I'd definitely use hair removal cream, if she does I'd be wary though because I had friends as a teenager who ended up with chemical burns as a result because they were sensitive to it. Do a patch test!

And I think it's great that you're supporting her in this by the way. I'm pale with dark hair (and bikini thighs nowadays 🙄) and it would have been horrendous not to be able to do anything about it as a preteen. Teenagers can be crueller than adults in this sort of situation tbh.

Op, I use a lumea, it's quite expensive but you need to shave the hair beforehand. On the instructions it says not to use it on children. Maybe when she 15/16?
I'd go with the hair removal cream for now. I used it from age 11/12 and it never affected my skin badly.

Lurking for ideas. Dd (13) just shaved this year, she said it was ok for the little bikini maintenance needed....rather than going for a wax.

I don't know why you're being told your daughter is no venus - how would they know! I assumed you made reference to her being beautiful as you don't enjoy discussing her body hair that could be viewed negatively. In an ideal world she shouldn't have to worry about it. But in reality it's understandable she might feel self conscious and OP therefore wants to help her rather than insist she be a bastion of female self confidence at age 12!

I'd say Swim shorts or veet. Just make sure she only applies in the actual bikini line area - not so great in intimate areas! Also I shave legs/armpits but not bikini line. Re-growth itches for me I'm afraid.

Just to warn you about hair removal cream; I tried it on my bikini line after it being suggested on here. It was the sensitive stuff but after only 2 mins on I started to feel extreme pain so washed it off and some skin came off with it leaving me red, sore and bleeding for about two weeks.

Never again.

The itching went away with me after a few months of shaving now it just itches when I grows too long (about every 2 weeks) which I when I need to shave anyway. But I am too lazy to do it for swimming so I just wear shorts bikini bottoms
