My DD is frightened of being alone

My DD is 11 and is frightened of being alone. She won't go upstairs on her own or lock the toilet door when out. She also is frightened of anything Egyptian and we've had to hide a couple of pieces of Egyptian art from the house. Today she also wouldn't get in a lift for fear it would breakdown. It's getting worse and worse. Does anyone have any advice on how to help her get over it. She's been frightened since she was about 8 old and I am sadly losing my patience as it's so inconvenient not being able to leave her alone upstairs.

It does sound like it's gotten a bit out of hand OP. Have you spoken to a GP about it?

The Egyptian thing- did she maybe watch a film she shouldnt have (the mummy for example) and it's given her a fright?

The upstairs on own/ locking toilet is quite alarming. And so hard for you. Does she have a group of friends her age?

I was wondering about the Egyptian thing as well. Has she watched something like the 'the mummy', 'Raiders'? That aside, it sound like she's got some kind of anxiety if it's been going on since she was 8yrs old. Might e a good idea to visit the GP or seek some CBT. The earlier she receives n intervention the better her chances of changing the course of her anxiety or quashing it.

Thank you for your posts. They studied Egyptians at school. That's where the problem started I feel. We had some artefacts in the house which although we've hidden them she says she still knows they are there. She has been referred for counselling for her anxiety before but after the initial session they told us not to worry she was fine. I was thinking of speaking to the doctor again about her. With you advice I think I will definitely now. I do worry both that it will get out of hand and I will increasingly get frustrated if I don't sort it. Thank you
