DD constant crying

DD is 10 and has always been emotional but she hasn't seemed to have grown into an ability to control it. She bursts into tears over every small thing. I know some of this is normal and will be down to hormones but it seems to be more than that. She's getting upset as she is labeled as a 'cry baby' at school and some of her after school activity leaders have started to comment too. Can anyone offer any advice to help her with self control?

Oh, that's really sad to hear, It's tough being 10 and I would say they are prone to outbursts, but in my experience, they are sporadic and cyclical (hormones or tiredness)

If this is happening all the time, then I think it would be worth going into school for some advice, they should be able to help, do you have a pastoral carer?

Is she yr 6?

No yr 5 - she has actually matured massively over the last year in terms of friendship issues and work ethic. Up to this moment I have been dismissing it as tiredness and hormones but it was when her activity leader said she cries every week over something trivial that I felt I had to post for advice...

If she had been yr 6, I would have said what a lot of pressure it is on some kids at the moment.

I guess there's no discernible trigger? No friendship, issues, struggling at school with anything? I'm wondering if it is just a massive surge of hormones? growth spurt or tiredness (this can build up, can't it?).

How long as it been going on?

I had to post, not with advice but because my DD is exactly the same. Will dissolve into tears over the slightest thing. Even pieces of music upset her. The irony is that she is actually quite a happy little thing, but very sensitive and emotional. My dad was the same. It doesn't help with life though so i am interested to see how others cope with this.

Actually in all honesty - she's always been like this at home and I've just put it down to home being her 'safe space' . thanks for the replies - I'll try having a word with school...

Definitely speak to school. It's really hard tho, isn't it, you don't want to overplay it or make a fuss if it is hormones, but you also don't want to dismiss it as growing up and not help her.

I think you'll find a vast majority of 10 yr olds are like this but if you already have a delicate soul, it will it be much harder and more obvious.

Good luck with the the school, keep us updated.
