Firstly I am aware that age 9 isn't pre-teen but I wasn't sure we're else to write sorry oops

Anyhow, my 9 year old DD wants snapchat on her iPad mini (that she got as a prize for getting it a school). She only wants it to message me and her 13 ye old sister because she doesn't have a phone to text and my Apple ID is linked to her iPad so she can't use that for messages!

Shall I let her have it??
Let me know asap smile

No. Because it'll be hard to say no to her accepting other friends as contacts.

Set her up her own Apple ID and link it to yours as family!
Or you can add multiple email addresses to your ID and selects hers to send/receive messages on her device!

Absolutely no way.

No, I don't even like my 14 yo having it. Definitely not at 9.

Also OP, snapchat have made an app for people under 13 called Snapkidz, same idea that just can't send them X

Absolutely not.

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Nope. No way. I would just get her a basic phone to text on.

I think 9 is too young.

Balletgirlmum Sun 13-Mar-16 13:17:29

No, my 14 y year old has Facebook & Instagram but I don't allow snapchat.

SavoyCabbage Sun 13-Mar-16 13:23:36

I haven't let my 12 year old have it.

Too young for snapchat. Why does she need to contact you and her sister, do you not live with her?
Keep social media off them until they get to secondary if you can!!

not in a million years!

surely you can see how inappropriate snap chat is for a NINE year old child?

LilRedWG Sun 20-Mar-16 15:23:57

Definitely not.

CheeseAndOnionWalkers Sun 20-Mar-16 16:54:20

No. iMessage is ample for her age.
If she wants a play with the filters, download the app MSQRD.

TrinityForce Sun 20-Mar-16 16:56:11

No way in hell.

Snapchat messages aren't saved so it's more likely to be used to send 'naughty' pictures than other apps.

YorkshireMansWife Thu 31-Mar-16 10:30:49

No way from here as well!

13 is the minimum age for any social media apps, this is what I always use as a back up when they say I am tight and that EVERYONE else has it.
He is 11.

That1950sMum Thu 31-Mar-16 10:33:34

Absolutely no way. My DD is 10 and I wouldn't even consider it for a second.

AliceThrewTheFookingGlass Thu 31-Mar-16 10:47:24

Isn't snapchat mostly used by people to send nude pictures? The only time I've heard of it is in relation to tit/dick pics or 'leaked' nudes.

Not a chance in hell would I allow a 9 year old to have snapchat. or indeed any other social media for that matter.

NotMeNotYouNotAnyone Thu 31-Mar-16 20:04:00

No way

Get her a cheap phone, you can get it linked to yours so you have to give permission for downloading apps

NotMeNotYouNotAnyone Thu 31-Mar-16 20:04:38

I mainly use snapchat to send silly pictures to my friends... But I'm a bit past the "giggling at rude bits" phase

No way... Add a child's Apple ID - it's very simple! hmm
