Gah! I can't seem to get this right, ever!

DD comes into kitchen in shorts & t shirt. I say 'you look summery' Smile

DD - I've been having a workout in my room.

Me - oh, why?

DD pats her stomach. (she is v slim).

Me - oh, you don't need to worry about that Smile .

DD - I knew I shouldn't have told you. I was going to help you with the dinner Angry

DD then stomps upstairs into her room & slams the door.

Sigh. How are we supposed to get this right? I'm trying so hard to encourage her to accept her shape - and she is not fat, just not super skinny - I can never seem to say the right thing. We don't talk about diets, just healthy eating, I don't diet, DH doesn't either.

How do you approach this? I'm increasingly concerned at her concern about her shape.

Well I might have said something like-

"OK", I think as much as you can try not to judge. Try not to pass comment.

Are you worried? Is she dieting, refusing food?

No, no apparent food refusal or dieting, so for that I am very thankful. But she's mentioned feeling bad about her appearance. She also watches a lot of YouTube videos about makeup and beauty stuff, which is probably harmless, but I'm paranoid about her getting over-anxious and getting obsessed about looks etc.

Very hard not to pass comment, but I will try...

Maybe push a keep fit angle? Would you have had the same reaction if she joined a sports team?

Nothing too worrying about wanting to tone up.

I'd worry if food became an issue, or too much gymming.

For now I'd stick with 'cool, it's good to keep healthy'
