Is there a dentist section or is here best? DD age 11 got her twin block braces yesterday at 10 am so nearly been in a whopping 24 hours now - we had tears after school because they are so big and nobody can understand her then she played out and calmed, went to guides all seemed well then bedtime hit and she hardly slept all night - not hurting particularly just uncomfortable and a mouth full and saliva overload. We have hardly had any sleep and she has gone to school as we figured why she busy her mind will be off them. SHe cannot eat with them in so is taking out to eat and last night I am surprised she didn't take them out in a radgey - how long does the hell last? She has a ulcer this morning so am off to get her some bonjela and some pillows to raise her more in bed. I had braces as a child but not these twin blocks which seem huge.

Tell her to hang on in there - it does get better. My daughter was the same when she had hers a couple of years ago. She broke down in tears when we left the orthodentist, and didn't wear them for the first night. She realised that it would be worth it in the end and decided to wear them the next day. You are on the right track keeping her busy, so to take her mind off it. The talking will improve gradually over the next few weeks (my daughter had to do a presentation in English about a week after she got hers and she managed although it was a bit difficult). She was told by the orthodentist to take them out for eating, but sometimes kept them in once she got used to them. The excess saliva will also calm down as the mouth/brain gets used to them being there. We found that paracetamol and ibuprofen for the first few days helped, along with Boots sore mouth gel for any ulcers and rubbing. If she perserveres, the results can be amazing in quite a short space of time. I hope things improve soon - she and you have my sympathies, but it is worth it - honest!

Thanks for that, she slept all night last night which made a huge difference, she is removing them to eat and still moaning about them but not as bad thank god. More aching now when she takes them out as opposed to when puts them in, just tried a yogurt with them in which turned quite comical. last night it was foot massage tonights its faces so at least we will look lovely if anything Smile

any tips on actually removing them - do they get looser? she really moans and struggles to actually take them out - like meals and cleaning. I suggested tonight a glass of cold water which I totally made up - would this help ?
