Christmas ideas for DD 10

DD has asked for either an iPod touch or a kindle fire for Christmas this year. Besides the expense I am a bit reluctant to give her any more access to games and computers than she already has. Plus I suspect she is just listening to what her friends are saying and copying them.
DD already has access to a PC, iPad, iPod, DS, wii & my iPhone (when she can get her hands on it). I can just about mange her screen time and worry about adding to it. She is trying to say the kindle fire is for reading but I know it's the games that will be used.
How much is too much or am I being a 'mean mum' as DD says.

I've also said no for similar reasons. I've said no more until laptop for year 10, start of gcse courses. I'm a mean mummy, too.

We've had a year with a lot of financial drains. I've warned them to expect a frugal Christmas. One has asked for a ukelele and the other clothes.

DD is 9.5, we have got her a rainbow loom kit with the loom and loads of the rubber bands you make the bracelets from.
Also a fleece animal onesie & some books. Total cost about £50.

Oh yes I've seen the rainbow loom and thought about that too. If i was to give into the kindle fire then there would be nothing else. It's not the cost as such just the idea of more computers = more stress.

Three million multicoloured rubber bands may turn out to be their own source of stress... especially as she is not naturally tidy.

That should have said paperwhite. I'm typing this on my Kindle Fire & hate the predictive text. I prefer my paperwhite.

I have suggested the Kindle and she is not amused. Think that speaks volumes really as I suspected this is just an excuse for her to have her own tablet with games etc.

I've explained to my DD (who borrows my Kindle Fire sometimes) that if she uses the Lovefilm App, we can instantly see what she has been watching. Even more humiliating would be the fact that we can track what she watches on our Smart TV, so we could instantly play the same stuff with her sitting next to us in agonising embarrassment on a bigger screen!

She saved up for an iPod Touch when she was 10 and has looked after it properly ever since. She knows that we will check her internet history (she tried to set a password, but we cracked it instantly!) I honestly think we can trust her more with the iPod Touch because she had to pay for it herself and she doesn't want it to be taken away. I'd far rather she had that to use at home and a basic mobile phone for school than a smart phone.

DD1 - also 10 - initially asked for a Kindle Fire but then went off the idea when we said that due to cost that would be her only present. She has an iPod and I think that's enough screen access for now. Instead I've got her a couple of CDs and DVDs, Geek Girl 2 book, the Bath Bomb Factory kit, some clothes and some perfume. Hasn't cost much but loads to open on Christmas Day and I suspect that's still the main excitement for her.

I've got my 10yr old a mini kobo, lots of the models own colouring books, 1D stuff and some Lego she wanted.

Again not masses but enough to open and stuff she likes x

Well she has admitted that she only wants the kindle fire for the games etc. and I suspect because her friend has one. So what she really wants is her own tablet which is just as I thought!

Also we have an iPad which she has some access to and a desktop which is downstairs where I can keep an eye on things. I just don't want to have to monitor another device that's portable and I don't want any more arguments about screen time.
