When do their friends start paying for activities

In primary if you invited another child to the cinema etc then you generally paid for that child

Now they are in high school I'm guessing that doesn't continue and I certainly can't afford it

Dd wants to go and see the hunger games with her friend which is fine, they can get the bus and I've said I'll pick them up after but dd doesn't get that her friend should pay her own ticket

Am I out of touch with this?

I think it depends on how the invitation is worded. 2 kids, discussing new film: "we could go and see that" "Yep, sounds good" = separate payment, but "would you like to go to the cinema and watch xyz with me?" = pay for both tickets.

I wouldnt say this was the done thing even in primary here. The parent provides money no matter what the age.

I always think if you've issued the invite as a parent, then the other parent will probably pay for your child (although I've always sent my daughter will the money she needs to pay for activity just in case, as well as some treats for everyone).

If it's something they've discussed and arranged between themselves, then I'd say each child pays for themselves. The fact you've offered to pick them up in something you've done out of kindness not because you are hosting the whole thing.

Friend should pay, unless invited by you.

Can they take advantage of Orange Wednesday?

You should pay for kids if you are going to. If the girls are going to the cinema without a parent, on their own, they each pay.

The shift comes when you stop arranging days out and the girls do it themselves.

Agree with Rosen - if they arrange it, they each sort out their own finances.

Don't other parents offer to pay for their own child at primary as well, just out of courtesy?
