DS(10) in tears over swimming?

Hi
This is first time I've started a thread but am at a loss over what to do, over something that seems so minor.

I was discussing with DC which pool I would take them to tomorrow -DS(10) and DD(8) - and we discussed a pool we've not been to before but is on outskirts of town and out of nowhere DS shrieks, sobbing that he doesn't want to go to this particular pool and that I will never understand the reason!

He has spent last twenty minutes sobbing over this and whilst he has been hormonal/argumentative/ pre teen like for a whole now, this level of upset is completely out of the blue. I don't really care which pool we go to but I really would like to know his reason.

The pool in question is a good twenty minutes from where we live so the chance of bumping into anyone we know is slim.

Honestly , and I never thought I'd say this, but he was far easier as a toddler!

Don't know whether to just leave be or persist in trying to find out the reason which is probably only going to cause more upset!

Has he ever been to this pool before? With anyone else??
If so, maybe something untoward happened to him.
It sounds a completely over the top reaction for his age if this isn't the case.

No we've never been to the pool, I was just considering it on recommendation of friends.

I thought there might have been more to it but have a feeling it is just an over the top reaction but haven't seen him react like this before so it threw me a bit! Far worse than the grunting he'd been doing!

He's calmer now, and I've told him that I will decide which pool we go to, and that he needs to give me a valid reason and not screech to get his own way.
