Have the teenage years started?

DS1(yr 7) announced at 11 he was tired and going back to bed and hasn't surfaced since. First time he has ever done this when he has been well.

Not depressed, not ill, not unhappy. Bit bored as DS2 is doing a football camp. We were about to play chess, which he loves.

DS1 (11, YR 7) is very similar lately. He has been sleeping in quite late on the weekends and this week. Also, this week, has taken himself back to bed. I thought it might have to do with growing and the body needing more rest to cope. He used to be late to sleep, early to wake.

Also, he can't be bothered to do anything, unless I drag him out. Once he is there, he has a whale of a time Hmm

It's very odd, not quite sure. I am ready for a teenager!

He is up now so about to be thrashed at chess (as usual).

This sounds like my DS too - 12, yr 7 he has just started sleeping later at weekends after always being up by 7 all the year round. I am finding it stange to get used to (although nice he isn't up at the crack of dawn)

Yes, here too, DS1 12 nearly13. Has been decidedly grumpy over half term, I think he's been bored and totally unwilling to come out and do anything. Didn't even enjoy going swimming which is usually something he loves. Just loping around the house looking miserable. Had knock on effect on DS2 too. Lovely.

Yes 12 and a half year old boy here - complaining he is tired and generally grumpy. Gaining a fair bit of weight but not eating that much. Now apparently he is too tired to listen Hmm which is why he keeps "forgetting" to do the things he is asked to do e.g. brush his teeth. Outside is "boring" and there is nothing to do - if he needs fresh air he will just say "well, i'll open a window"

Looks dirty and mis-shapen even when just out the shower and his posture resembles a sack of tatties.

Please someone tell me it gets better!!!

No2 son is 11 and a half and seems further on in puberty terms and is sarcastic and tantrummy as opposed to tired and grumpy......the joys!!!

However he at least can be persuaded to go out for a scooter about - it "helps him think" Hmm

There's a concensus growing about yr7 boys's attitudes and behaviours this half term, isn't there?
DS 12 has spent much of the time on the computer or else 'out' with his mates which seems to involve buying lunch at Greggs and walking aimlessly but aimiably around the place for hours at a time good exercise anyway
He has come out swimming with us and has played with his brother, to be fair.

Anyone esle scratching their head in puzzlement at the sudden arrival of ATTITUDE and the assumption that he is totally in charge of all aspects of his life and who on earth is his mother, to tell him what to do?!

Hello all. I'm a mother of two teen/ preteen girls, but I have three nephews of similar age. I see them about five times a year.
Have you SEEN what happens to boys at this age!!!!!! My god, the transformation is phenomenal. One day they are my little nephews, the next they are hulking great MEN!!!!!!! It literally happens in the space of a few weeks. It's going to be noticeable............

Oh crikey. DS is 11 very soon and he is Mr Stroparama. Everything I say is met with "for Gods sake!" Or " yes, in a minute". Then all of a sudden he's delightful. Can't wait for the next 8 years or so.....and don't get me started on the grunting. Did you say yes? Grunt. That's a yes then? Gruuuunt. Then five minutes later FGS mum, I said no. Aaarrrggh.

I cleaned his stinky bedroom this afternoon, he had a bath and just went up to turn the lights off and the smell is starting to seep back. How?

Ha ha, what exactly is that smell? I share I room with their dad and our room doesn't smell like that. Is it pheremones of some kind or do they all have something hidden in a cupboard or under the bed?
